SUPERSTAR~ LIFE AND TIMES EXCELLENT DOCUMENTARY

‘Superstar’ The Life and Times of Andy Warhol is an excellent documentary and DVD program that has a lot to offer.

‘Superstar’ is presented through a “window in time” point of view, and is filled throughout with filmed sequences of news coverage of events in Andy Warhol's life, as well as other current events of the time period. The documentary is lively, but at the same time a thoughtful perspective of Andy Warhol’s life, and is filled with many interviews with members of his family, friends and business associates, factory workers and other celebrities that knew him. There is certainly a wide variety of his work presented, which makes it quite a visually dazzling program, including his commercial artwork, his experimental films, and his silkscreen images and portraits.

The second part the DVD program is quite outstanding with commentary from Director and Producer Chuck Workman. The commentary track is very thoughtful and begins with the first scene of the program, as the Director reflects on each sequence, the planning that went into this scene, what he was trying to convey, and other reflections. He explains how the themes of the program have been divided into three aspects of Andy Warhol’s life; the person, the Artist, and the Celebrity. The commentary edition of the program helps gives an underlying interpretation to the entire program and a knowledgeable perspective of the subject. It really is an interesting program, and like being able to watch the program twice with two different versions.

(the playing time of each program is 87 minutes)
