Absolutely brilliant tool.!!!
I am not a carpenter or joiner, but do DIY
I am building a shed, and this little piece of kit lets you quickly mark out all your angle cuts for common rafter ends, butts at ridge, and set out angles, with no mistakes.
It's one of those tools that has been around for decades and has not been able to be improved upon, it is easy and simple to use, and everyone should have one
The little book that comes with it shows you how to calculate just about every bit of any roof you will ever build, and gives you the confidence to undertake tasks that would have had you scratching your head for hours.
It is versatile, has many uses, and should be in everyones tool cupboard!
There are also some super how to use videos on the you tube which make it all so easy.

Overpriced and a bit clunky

I looked at quite a few speed squares and everyone seems to say the Swanson is the best, so I got one. It’s used for on site joinery rather than specific work. I’ve used it for two weeks mainly putting in stud work. It’s OK for drawing square lines on 3x2 but no better than my old adjustable square. It does seat quicker on the wood but that’s it. The pivot is also annoying as it kicks out the pencil line when drawing a square line. It would have been better if there was a 7” metric version which there isn’t so had to get imperial. The angle drawing idea using the pivot works easily and is handy, but I can do the same thing with my mitre saw so it’s not a big advantage. If I was buying again I’d go for a lighter weight aluminium one for a third of the price of the Swanson. Read full review...

must stay off ebay when drunk

I woke some days gone to find I had been at my old tricks again , playing on ebay after a few sherbets. sometimes it is like secret santa when the postman calls, just to see what I have done now. This latest episode was the Swanson speed square. better this that the last thing I was bidding on, a bloody yatch.. I cannot even sail. I digress. this speed square thing. I can confirm it is VERY well made with clear and concise markings. It came with a blue book that talks about the pitch of a roof ??? my house already has one, but that seems a minor detail. If you need one of these squares I thoroughly recommend this brand. If you are reading this review, you obviously need one of these things, so go ahead and buy it. NOT a cheap chinese piece of junk. and definitely not a plastic one.Read full review...
