Would I recommend this Ethernet switch and this brand in general? Definitely.

Since I have been working from home as part of the Covid-19 pandemic response, I have been using my work lap-top and a separate screen in addition to my home computer. I run both from the same Ethernet cable, but quickly grew tired of physically switching the cable between the two. There are also times when I want both to be on at the same time.

Unaware that it wouldn't solve my problem, I tried a couple of cheap cable splitters before buying this Ethernet switch. Although the splitters allow both devices to be plugged in, only one can work at a time which didn't help much. However, buying this Ethernet switch has solved my problem completely. I can now have both devices running simultaneously, with no dip in performance at all, and there is still room for three more devices if I need it. It comes on each time I power up, and it just works. There was no setting up required, other than plugging the cables in and plugging it into the power supply, and for the money, I can't fault it.

I'm no expert, and I don't need the levels of performance that gamers do, but as far as I can see, if you have a need to run more than one device off one Ethernet cable, then this is the device for you. I bought another TP-Link device recently and that has been perfect too, so from my experience of the company, I would recommend them and their products to anyone. The items all seem easy to set up, and they just work (and work very well).

TP Link 5 Port Switch

I bought this to replace one that had failed. It was not the same as the one that failed; it is a smaller, white plastic job. My fault for not paying close attention. I was looking for a TL-SF1005D - this is not it. This has LS1005 on the box. It has an external power supply, as per the failed one. However, it does the same job and have used it to replace another one that I cannot see. I am a little concerned about the stress 3 round network cables are putting on it and may replace those with flat cables that are more flexible also use a colour one for the input (socket on wall) and grey for outgoing. 3 year warranty is says on the box so made a note in the calendar on the PC, along with a copy of the order, on the day it expires. I should have written the purchase date on the item.
I have been advised that TP Link equipment does not last long. I have only had one of these switches fail so I am quite happy to use another TP Link device.

Works Beautifully, so just buy it.

it works very well. you just need any ethernet cable & connect it into this tiny box, from there you connect the other end in to your router box. plug in the mains cable in to box, plug in other end to any plug/extension cable, etc. then you need a second ethernet cable which you plug in to any of the other 4 ports on box, & run this cable to your extra intended device, tv computer, laptop, etc.
it really is simple to connect & it does work well with no loss of speed or internet connection which you can/do get without the wired connection sometimes.
This is a great gadget & I fully recommend that you buy it...it really is all you need & you don't need to look elsewhere for anything else.
I have 2 tv's & a PC connected to my TP-LINK5 SWITCH BOX, & they all work beautifully. no lagging on the bbc i player or itv hub at all, or on PC, whereas before it was hit & miss, & very annoying.

Worked fist time out of the box

I bought this switch to increase the number of network ports next to my tv as I needed to connect 4 devices to the internet. My Sky router is not in the same room as my TV so bought a TP-Link TL-WPA4220T to extend the network into my lounge via the ring main electrical wiring. I installed an old Belkin switch to increase the number of ports but this proved problematic and continually dropping connections. As soon as I plugged up the new TP-Link switch everything burst into life and has been stable without a single issue. Very pleased with my new set up and especially with the ease of installation.Read full review...

Good low cost switch for home or small office

Not much to say really - with Ethernet switches, you just plug them in and away you go.
This is a good basic switch - no Gigabit Ethernet here - for home and small office use it's absolutely fine. I have two of these sharing various networked devices (a printer, network attached storage and - temporarily - a VoIP phone). Just plug it in and go.Read full review...

Ideal little switch for home use.

This 10/100 switch is really all you need for home use, unless you're running several devices that drain a lot of bandwidth. Tested with multiple devices running at once and experienced no drop in data transfer speed or internet connection quality.Read full review...

Networks my TV boxes and PC perfectly

I bought this Ethernet Switch as I needed more ports than the 4 provided by my internet router. Whilst I don't have any quality or technical comments to provide as yet I can safely confirm that the switch provides the extra ports I need and everything works fineRead full review...

Usual TP Link quality

Having been an advocate of TP Link products in the past, this network hub gives all the workings and build quality I expected. Very easy set up, instructions are clear, and don't need a microscope to read. Very happy with my purchase, and would recommend this product over cheaper alternatives.Read full review...

Perfect for the job

I bought this as my new sky Q router only has two ethernet ports. This is the perfect solution as there are still some things that work better plugged in than via wifi. It was delivered very quickly and works fine, so perfect for the job.Read full review...

TP-Link TL-SF1005D 5-port Ethernet Switch / Hub

Very basic, no-frills 5-port hub (switch). Incredibly simple to use and does the job well, as you would expect from TP-Link. If you are looking for a small Ethernet hub that is plug-in-and-off-you-go, then you won't go far wrong with this unit. I suppose that my only gripe is that it is not powered from the main hub (via the Ethernet cable), but instead requires a plug-in-the-wall power cube (supplied). But this is a small gripe indeed; the TL-SF1005D works well, is good value and more than justifies the inconvenience of finding a local mains socket.Read full review...
