Very capable radio at low cost

This radio is a nice low cost clone of the Yaesu FT-8900 quad band mobile. I have two of these and they work great. All bands on this newest one are working well. Make sure you keep adequate clearance near the radio heatsink/fan to minimize heat buildup on high power usage of 50 watts. Audio reports are good and the receiver sensitivity and selectivity seems good. This one is used in my portable station kit and performs well. It's a good buy and the seller is very dependable......Read full review

Great little radio for a second rig, super feature rich

Let me start by saying this is a replacement for my handheld in my van. That being said it is a good radio. Other than that yea not so much lol. It definitely works and does have louder audio than other radios of this type that cost more, unfortunatly the audio has that kinda echoey qualitly you get from these. I put a good mike on my handhelp and it sounds better than this and that is only a $30 radio sooo. I am not even going to comparre to my Icom because well it really does not compare, but as far as features are concerned my Icom does not compare so for a backup or backpak rig it is fully function and does transit quite well nice compatct size and has the removable faceplate option included so once again for features alone it can't be beat. I am thinking if I could find a replacement mike that would help but not much you can do for the reciever which has that works great until it has to work and then it falls on its face and no ssb so 10m is basically useless and does not work on 11m so less than useless lol Read full review

Good Rig, Don't push the Pa, and do some mic work.

They fail because heat sink can't handle 45w key down with the small fan. The mic audio is bad, but can be improved on with some new element, or resistor inline with mic element. Run it on low power, and only use high power for short TX....Lots of features, 4 around town are holding up well...Read full review

tyt9800 dual bander with 2 extra bands... can work full duplex.

a good ham radio or scanner. plan on using chirp to set it up.
takes some time to get used to it.
do not expect it to hear as well as a Japan made radio.

OK for the money

I have had this radio for a week. It does have AM, but it is RX only. Really makes 10 and 6 meters useless for the most part. If you are looking at this radio, do not get it with the quad band antenna. Get a comet 2/440 antenna.

instead get the radio that comes with the programing cable. The radio has a micro USB port on the back, BUT it is not a USB port. It is just a serial port wired to the micro USB port.

If you don't get the programming cable that comes with this radio, you will be stuck trying to wire a FTDI chip to a USB pin-out.

Also keep in mind, this radio has no MIC port on the body. It is just on the head. I wanted a MIC port on the body so I could mount the face above the rear view mirror and have the MIC come from the body under the seat. Not with this model.

Other than that, I get good reports on 2 and 440. If you are looking for a cheap duel band, you could do worse.

Braker 19 good budy

I've gotten a lot of feedback from other cb'rs and I was told they can hear me but it's not very good sounding quality on their end. I am new to this so I am trying to figure out what my problem may be can't figure out how to set SWR on the channelsRead full review

Great Bargain!

It has four bands of frequencies and it receives well. The unit is intuitive to understand and to program. I has 50 watts of power (four power settings) and transmits very well. I would recommend this transceiver to anyone who has a ham radio license!Read full review

Nice!

This radio seems to be a very nice multiband rig! I've not had much of a chance to use either the 10m or 6m bands yet, but 2m and 70cm band seems to work very well, and have had good audio reports coming back. The audio from this unit is very easy to hear and the menus are not had to follow. Overall, a great rig for a great price, as of now!Read full review

Nice Radio for the Price

This is an easy to use item and I am using it as a starter base in my home. I am having some problems with communications between the radio and the computer for programming but I am sure I will find a solution (I hope).Read full review
