Transformers Binaltech Prowl (blue version)

The binaltech line is very similar to the transformers alternators line released worldwide outside of Japan, except that some or all of the body panels are die cast metal rather than plastic. Prowl is no different, trading plastic doors and hood for diecast (and a few other smaller panels). Prowl is a bit more fragile than some and should be transformed with care by an experienced collector, but can bring years of entertainment for the owner.

Prowl features a detailed interior, but sacrifices the back seat to allow the legs to fold into the trunk area. The trunk lid, doors, and good open. The engine turns into Prowl's gun, and a baton hidden behind the bumper is included as well. In vehicle mode the front wheels steer, though they're not connected to the steering wheel.

If you're a fan of the alternators line of transformers, I recommend any binaltech figure, and Prowl would be a great addition to your collection.

Final note, this is one of the more frequently counterfeited piece in the binaltech line. Use caution when buying and make sure you're getting an authentic piece. One thing to look for in a genuine piece is the Takara logo in the lower right corner of the front of the box and the correct autobot logo on the left side.

Great for someone on a budget, but if you can afford Takara's, get that.

I bought the KO MP17 Masterpiece Prowl, and I have to say, I was impressed with the quality, especially with it being a knock-off. The plastic quality is very good, and seems to be on par with standard Transformers toys, which isn't bad considering the price. There is a minor issue with Prowl's gun in that it can be difficult to tab into his hand as the tab is slightly to big for the slot, and the joints in his legs are a bit loose on mine, but overall I would definitely recommend this to anyone considering purchasing one. That being said, it has nothing on the official Takara release, except the lower price.Read full review...

world's smallest prowl

Not for the clumsy, the parts are fragile. But with the exercise of finesse, it makes a nice display item. Most of its pieces are removable - it was a bit shocking to see the leg come off. The transforming action is very similar to the original. Fun for those who had the real deal way back when.Read full review...

KO or NO?

For the most part, the Masterpiece KO figures are very high quality clones of their original counterparts, with very few exceptions. Prowl Is not one of the exceptions. His joints are not loose, the tolerances are precise, and there are only a few minor issues with the paint application. Specifically (on my figure) one of his red horns is not fully painted, and there is a subtle fingerprint smudged into the paint on the hood of the car.

Those minor issues aside, KO Prowl is a very nice figure and one of my favorites in my collection. If you prefer to support the official Hasbro/Takara-Tomy figure, keep in mind that the price tag is over twice as large. I'm a broke millenial, so living the pirate life and buying KOs is my only real option.

I hope this review was helpful for anyone trying to decide if the differences between KO and official are worth the price tag. Before purchasing this figure, I consulted this side by side comparison that you may find very helpful as well!

Good option for older masterpiece transformer

As someone who got into Masterpiece collecting rather late, these older figures are hard to find. This one seems comparable in quality to some of the newer officials I have and is a nice design.

Every model has its own quirks, with that said. I Lovelovelove my ko Prowl.

Its no different from my real MP's. ie. Bluesstreak, Streak,& Silverstreak.

Nice retro look with the ability to pose it in a lot of different ways

This is what every kid wished the G1 Transformers could have done - looked like they did in the series yet be pose-able. The plastic is much more durable too
