The Amityville Horror Review

The Amityville Horror works in a more sophisticated way than most horror films do, this isn't some heady psych-thriller. On the contrary, this is quite the fun romp, and there's a lot of gleefully eerie stuff waiting for you as the tension undulates. Many of the scares, both spooky and silly, are lovingly stolen from other horror pictures (a girl who talks to a dead girl distinctly recalls Hide and Seek, a secret torture chamber of a basement seems lifted right from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, plus the aforementioned Shining allusions), but the recycling isn't a bother, since the atmosphere (a ghost house, mist on a glassy lake sort of feel) is so convincing. The Amityville Horror is enjoyed on the basest levels (what good horror film isn't?), but its inner workings are not the product of idle filmmaking. The Amityvill Horror is a Perfect (Scary) Date Movie

Let me preface by saying this is a great date movie. It also looks spectacular on any big screen TV. Ryan Reynolds moves away from the teen movies and into a horror role - where he really does excel. Reynolds is superb as the haunted George Lutz - a caring family man who struggles as his family moves to a new, haunted home. There is plenty of gore, violence and suspense. Honestly, I was pretty antsy. Im not sure how many times Id watch this DVD - but its definitely a great Friday or Saturday night flick.

Great portrayal - Great actors - Great plot

Scary movies wouldn't be possible if the main characters weren't lacking some brain cells. That aside, Ryan played the main character really well. You could believe that he was being possessed. A very good performance from this young actor! The greatest thing about this movie is its suspense! From scene to scene you await the NEXT scare, the NEXT possessed action. The rest of the cast did a great job in portraying a terrorized family. A great scary movie (if you can ignore what common sense would tell YOU to do if it were you).Read full review...

Awesome remake!

EXCELLENT remake of the original! Very scary yet has a great story and I love the fact that it's based on a true story, that makes this movie so much better and Ryan Reynolds does an excellent job acting of being the sexy Dad and villain. wow true story + graphic

very detailed very graphic great movie the best part is it is a true story..this was great rent it buy it and kick back with the lights out on a friday night and enjoy it.....A+++
