This movie's cast absolutely MADE it the hit it became! It was great to see a powerfully directed movie about the "over 50" set interacting so well with the contemporary Indian generation. Another multistory line, each engaging in its own right. Maggie Smith is a powerhouse. But wait..there's more. You really MUST see the sequal, "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel." We enjoyed it very much, but it might not appeal to a younger set.

Saw other reviews and wasn't sure I would like it but I found the characters to be engaging and well-played. The trailers I saw made it seem a little more "light and fluffy" but it had more depth and meaning than expected and I thought it was very well done. You might have to be of a certain age to understand what they are going through, so it may not appeal to the younger set. That's why just 4 stars. For my age group, I would give it 5 stars. Missed this when it was first out. For some reason I like British movies more than ours, perhaps because I can actually understand what it being said and most of them aren't as nasty. Who doesn't love Dames Maggie and Judi? And the "other" Bill "Nye". I did wonder if this movie was why Edith's illegitimate daughter in Downton Abbey was named Marigold.Read full review
