The COCA-COLA Kid (DVD, 2002)

This is a quirky but cute movie. It is the "land down under" and even here, Coca-Cola is king. . .almost! Eric Roberts is the "Coca-Cola Kid". He has been sent to Melbourne, Australia by Coke in Atlanta, Ga. U.S.A. His job is to find a problem, identify exactly what the problem is, and solve it. They didn't know there was a problem, or that Mr. Baker (Roberts) was even coming. This is a funny movie. Baker is a driven man who instantly runs afoul of his secretary, Greta Sciachi. She is kind of a kook with a lunatic ex-husband, transsexual friends, and a really cute six year old daughter named DMZ. She instantly falls for Baker. Just like a robot, Baker identifies a problem area where there seems that no Coke is being sold. He finds out that the place is the McDowell Valley, and the reason no Coke is sold there, is that Mr. McDowell is an independent bottler and produces McDowell sodas in around ten different flavors. His operation is just like stepping back into the 1920's. Baker's secretary is from there, and she says that McDowell owns everything, even the people. Baker goes there and confronts McDowell. He is personally impressed by this antique operation. Professionally Baker and McDowell, both consumate Ad-Men have the head to head battle of the cola wars! McDowell will let Coke in, if Coke will market McDowell products outside of the Valley. He proposes, "McCOKE" Baker end runs around McDowell and gets Coke into the valley. After losing, McDowell dynamites his factory and burns it down. Baker senses that an era has ended, and sometimes winning isn't everything. This is a "different" kind of movie, and is most enjoyableRead full review...

GREAT MOVIE

One of Eric Roberts earlier films - very entertaining - very funny. I had it on VHS and watched it several times - this is one movie I want to keep in my film library. It's up-lifting and you just feel good after watching it.Read full review...
