The Dancer Upstairs dvd

Shot on a lowish budget this movie does a good jib at replicating the book.
It's not a knife edge thriller or anything,but does hold your attention.
It,s loosely based on the no nonsense Shining Path movement trying to overthrow the equally no nonsense government through the eyes of a policeman played by Javier Bardem.
It's also John Malkovich's director debut, and these two ,arguably hold the film together.
It could also be watched as a psychological movie as the Bardem character gets emotionally involved with Laura Morante.....whose not all that she seems.Read full review
