The Dressmaker (DVD, 2015)

I didn't know what to expect

I had heard good reports and that it's not "just a chick" flick - that husbands have also enjoyed it. I'm not so sure MY partner would be very interested, but I did think it was very very well done. I hadn't guessed the details of the big event the story revolves around.

I'd have a hard time classifying the genre of this film, as there's a bit of everything in there - drama, most definitely humour (sometimes black humour), with a touch of western, period and other themes in there too. But, whatever it is, the characters (and their actors) are intriguing.

Best Movie

After seeing this movie it became my favourite movie of all time , Kate ,Judy, and that gorgeous Hemsworth boy OMG play their parts brilliantly- very entertaining truely Australian story and being a dressmaker (whose late mother helped her many a time ) felt I was right there. One for the collection 11/10

This dvd is epic. There are many small towns in Australia with a seemingly pleasant exterior with a strange and twisted mentality, (Tenterfield, NSW is one that comes to mind). Kate Winslett is impeccable, as is Judy Davis. I can watch this movie again and again, it has so much. Excellent from beginning to its perfect finale. Read full review

GREAT movie! Loved the characters, some funny, some narrow minded--typical people you meet in a small country town. Some parts in the movie were sad. Kate Winslet was excellent in her role. And YES--revenge was sweet for Kate at the end of the movie! Read full review

Keeps you interested

I was surprised at how good the movie was. It was a satiracle story on an Aussie Town in the 1950's..
If you have ever lived in a very small country town the characters are real although exaggerated.
It has a Clint Eastwood style ending where the "Goodies" get their own back on the "Baddies"
