Good story line and interesting characters
I am enjoying the stories and relationships between characters in this series and look forward each evening to watching the next episodes. The contrast between Louisa's public persona and private feelings is handled sensitively and all of the main characters are sympathetic. The only criticism I would make is that the character's accents are hard to understand and I wind up guessing at half of the dialogues. Read full review

Still nice but a bit "fuzzy"
One of PBS's favorite series from decades ago is still as entertaining as it was then...HOWEVER, this and all our other sets of zone 2 DVDs, when played on our pricey "zone free" blu-ray machine have low rez (not as sharp) an image as native zone 1 or blu-ray discs - more like 720 ppi images that tempt you to look for the fine focus adjustment. We've not discovered yet if this some technical glitch or simply that the original productions were prior to our present 1080 ppi standard, but the problem seems endemic to zone 2 discs. Surprising since our playere is supposed to "enhance" DVDs to near Blu-ray quality.Read full review

Mostly Happy, A Little Sad
This series was very interesting from beginning to finish. Excellent cast of characters. I was sorry to reach the end of it, but will re-watch very soon. I have to admit that the cockney accent caused me to miss some of the words, but in real life that would have been the case also. I paid attention and understood most of what was said and going on in the scenes. I rewound the DVD sometimes to catch some things better. I highly recommend this series. It was nice to see Gemma Jones when she was quite young. I liked her in Bridget Jones Diaries movies and Sense and Sensibility. Also she did a good job as the busy, short-tempered nurse in the Harry Potter movies. I'm sure she's done a lot of other good roles besides these. Buy this if you can. You won't be disappointed. One of the best of the BBC.
One of the best of the vintage BBC productions. When I started to watch Masterpiece Theater many years ago, it set the standard for all future entertainment. Very few entertainment options here in the US, and some of the new BBC productions are as good or even come close.

very well done wth great charaters.
Did not know how this show would be, because I had not heard of it before. Turns out that it is great. Set in England with good character playing their part to give a sense of being there. Very good story line to keep you watching from one dvd to the next.Read full review

Clever
It is British programming and won’t appeal to everyone. I think it is great and I’m a yank from Michigan. Really great for me. Clever

Well done. Too bad it ended so soon.
Stumbled across episodes on BritBox, and had to have it all. Only two seasons. I think it would have lasted longer if it had been done today.
