One powerful series that keeps you engrossed on the edge of your seat. Go buy it, watch it, & enjoy

Great new series from Julian Fellows of Downton Abbey fame. The new series is brilliant! Set in the 1880's in New York & about the new rubber barons of New York (wealthy New Yorkers with self made money from Railways across America & industrialists including Thomas Edison ect) With one family (a rubber baron) up against the old families with the old money of New York who don't like letting in the new wealth & mixing with them) The cast is mainly unknown actors from New York who play brilliant parts. Plenty of plots & twists along the way! If you don't go out & buy you will regret watching a great series. Read full review

STUNNING PRODUCTION

I very much enjoyed this series based on much fact using a composite character to tell the stories of real events on NYC elite their rules and customs during the late 19th century.
The casting was very good but what really stole the show was the sumptuous wardrobe and locations, the homes etc.
I will look forward to series 2 but as history has told it was the new money that prevailed in the end.
The original old money people names many of Dutch descent have been very much forgotten by history.
For anyone who might want to read some of what it may have been like to live during those days & understand society at that time a good read is THE HUSBAND HUNTERS, social climbing in London and New York by Anne De Courcy. In this book it is easy to identify those who really did battle with Mrs Astor. In this first series, I feel sure the portrayal of the family who battled Astor was just one of many with new money who were destined to take over. Another source of how it was during those days is the read books written by Edith Wharton or watch some of her book screen adaptations. The Buccaneers, The Age of Innocence & The House or Mirth.
Personally, I would love to have the money but not all the awful rigid rules of society. I suppose women at that time had nothing else to do but social climb.
This series is well written and told. The actors are believable. Over all 5 stars.
