A classic dystopia by an unjustly neglected writer

R C Sheriff was huge in the interwar period. He wrote this in 1938-9, during the build-up to World War Two. It is a combination of English comic novel and post apocalypse sci fi, with a bias towards the former. It shouldn't work in theory but in practice it works very well. Sheriff is good at character and pace. I want to read more of his work.Read full review

Cracking read

A book about humanity. Sheriff can create characters whom you dislike, but still feel compelled to see their fate.
