Sad but true

This is the true story of one of the unknown hero's of WW2. By 1942, England was on the verge of losing the war. The German U-boats were inflicting heavy damage on allied shipping bringing supplies into the country and England was on the verge of starvation. English intelligence got a big break when they received a captured ENIGMA machine, the secret coding device of the Nazi's that they used to direct U-boats to shipping convoys. The machine codes were considered unbreakable, and this is the story of the intelligent code breakers hired to break the code and save England. This tells the story of Alan Turing, a genius mathematician, who gave his all for his country and sadly was brought down by the same country he helped save. A great movie that shows that not all hero's wear a uniform. The movie has excellent performances by the actors and keeps you interested through great story telling. SEE IT!Read full review...

Award winning!

This is a gritty, entertaining, enlightening and realistically feeling rendition of events surrounding the contribution of a man who would later be chemically castrated by his own government - which they now regret. Somehow, being remembered with your face on the English 50 pound note doesn't quite cancel out the depression and desperation that lead to his death. This movie delivers! Really worth seeing! one of the best WWII Movies factual and realistic.

great script followed the history and even Christopher looked real. Acting could not have been better. I felt I was in the rooms with them photography was exceptional. The flash backs were done in a way that it did not startle. I put this movie up to saving private Ryan, and the pacific. I have watched it three times. I also read the book so I was looking for details, they were there. Read full review...

Display of an Amazing Work

I can only say great things about this DVD. I'd already read the book. Two difficult things to think about:

1. Once we the code, we had to balance what we did with it. Use it enough to drive us to win WW2, BUT use it less than it became apparent that we broke the code. If the Germans knew that we broke Enigma, within a week or so, they would have a revised version of Enigma in service.

2. Convicting ~ 49,000 British men of being homosexual (illegal in England from the 1890s to the late 1960s). This drove Al Turing to take his own life at age 41.

Turning Point

Excellent job done in creating the times, the setting and the immediacy of the critical problem. Casting could not have been better! People do not realize how hard it was to create "computers" with only mechanical means. The mistreatment of those who are different is eloquently portrayed. Read full review...

Accurate but not that inviting of a title

A long overdue tribute to one man whose significant accomplishment has affected us all. Sadly lost in the backwater of history as many unknown important people are. Everyone should watch this once and say thank you.Read full review...

Worth watching, especially historically.

Well done movie (ducumentary) and keeps you thinking about how he helped change the world. More credit, I believe should have been given to the girl than was depicted in the movie but a smart viewer can discern that.
I'm waiting for the price to drop on the movie "The Man Who Knew Infinity" as that is a excellent movie (documentary" also.
