Entertaining series!
Great series! Loved this show on TV back in the day, but missed a lot of episodes and often watched episodes out of order, on rerun. Watching it in sequence now from the DVD set is quite a treat. Patrick Jane is a consultant for the CA Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He's a former carnival "psychic", having grown up as a carnie. He has incredible powers of observation and helps the CBI solve cases, though his unethical and comedic antics constantly get him in trouble. The stories are good! The acting is, too. thought provoking, intalecually stimulating, almost more fun than you can stand. :-)
I like-love crime dramas. Most of them follow sort of a formula in their episodes. Bruno Hell worked very hard to make Patrick Jane and unusual character and his relationships with his coworkers unique and often easy to predict. The first 5.5 years we are hunting down Red John, the serial killer that killed Jane's wife and daughter. Jane is to some extent a broken man that needs to mend or be mended and all of this makes for complex story lines. Also there is tons of stuff that links episodes together, hints of who Red John might be and why he appears to be aware of so many things and why Red John is a perfect foil for someone as sharp and as observant as Jane is. This is a fight worth watching.
I don't think I have ever been hooked on a program that is so complex and has so much going for it. I am addicted and have watched many of the episodes several times because there is so much subtle information and hints in each of them. Probably the best program ever.Read full review

Love “the Mentalist”
Love “the Mentalist”. The price was great and it shipped faster than anticipated. It was damaged, though not affecting the CDs. The case for one of the seasons was broken. It would have been wiser to put the item in a larger box than to simply wrap the product in bubble wrap. It could easily have affected the quality of the cds. It had clearly been dropped. What a deal!
I’ve wanted the Mentalist for such a long time, but as a mother of four I couldn’t get myself to spend that much money on myself, so when I saw this deal I jumped on it. One dvd came warped, but it only affected the last couple of minutes on the last episode. Everything else has worked fine. I love this show for its entertainment value. It can be quite serious, but also comic. I love the relationships among the main protagonists, which are loving and respectful, and full of ribbing and honest observations. As Patrick Jane, Simon Baker's acting makes believable transitions between an observant consultant and emotionally clueless in interpersonal relationships; as wily as a fox and funny as a trickster; and sad as a victim and determined as a relentless, unforgiving hunter. Great cast of actors!! The characters they play are likable and play so well together and off of each other's quirky personalities.
