The Middleman: the Complete Series (DVD, 2008)

You have to run to keep up with this one!

This is a very fast paced, smart and funny show with endless references to other movies and TV shows, politics, music and pop culture in general. I bought it based on fan reviews and was not disappointed. It is based on a graphic novel series which is also available on line. I haven't bought any "comic books" since I was 12 years old, but I'm buying some of these to extend the joy of the TV series (and I'm retired now, so you can get an idea of how much I enjoyed this show.) The Middleman deserves to be on the top of your list!

This is the very definition of a cult show and deserves to be right up there with "The Avengers" TV series.
Struggling young artist/office temp Wendy Watson (Natalie Morales) finds herself drafted into being the sidekick/apprentice of a mysterious secret agent known only as the Middleman (Matt Keeslar), an old-fashioned tall, square-jawed hero in a trim and tidy brown uniform who is so straight-laced and clean-cut he never swears, is always unfailingly polite, and only drinks milk (hey, it's a lifestyle choice!).
Together with their surly and sarcastic android receptionist Ida (Mary Pat Gleeson) and armed with a vast array of futuristic gadgets and weapons they fight comic book-style evil so we don't have to, battling gangster gorillas, a cursed tuba from the Titanic, and Dracula risen from the grave as a hand puppet!
This show manages the great trick of being both silly and serious at the same time.
It has a great cast playing great characters involved in great stories with bizarre pop culture references crowding into every scene thanks to series creator Javier Grillo-Marxuach who not only worked on the original "Charmed" and "Lost" but also created the original comic the show is based on.
The special effects are pretty cool too, and the DVD set is packed with fun and fascinating extras.
