Great for Theory and Non-Theory enthusiasts alike!

I'm always rather fond of Norton Anthologies primarily because of their choice selections but also for their insightful introductions before each piece. I used to hate theory, but forced myself to take a theory class because I knew my ignorance in the field would haunt me later. I am pleased to report that it's one of my favorite classes--not only am I learning so much with the class itself, but the book is great for independent study. Highly recommend.Read full review...

Enormous amount of knowledge and ideas

To be honest I was searching for not literature theory and critics but it turned out the book is such a treasure that although I might never read the entire book in my life it still gives me so much valuable content!Read full review...

A supremely helpful book for any writer or reader.

This book is huge and of course a large pain in the ass to carry back and forth to class....but outside of that, it really gives insight to the history of analysis of art and writing. I have yet to finish using this book for class, but I have complete faith that it will continue to be useful in the future. As a matter of fact, I will long to sell it back after this class is over for the good amount of money I will probably receive for it...but I'm sure I will want to keep it for future reference. Hmph.Read full review...
