When Perrett and the late Johnny Thunders teamed up for some gigs in the mid eighties in London, those that were there witnessed pure drugged lethargy and superlative performance from two of the most charismatic and undervalued musicians ever to take to the rock n roll stage... Johnny is sorely missed by those of us that were lucky enough to see him in the flesh in so many of his incarnations - whether with the Dolls, Heartbreakers, solo, or as already mentioned... when teaming up with other wonders that complimented his style and music - Friends such as Peter Perrett.

The thing about The Only Ones was they simply oozed class... And as musicians - They were simply f*****g brilliant. John Perry's individual guitar is as great as anything you will hear, and the drums of Kellie always compliment - always tight and intricate... Rolling and punching - taking the songs from one peak to the next, crashing, thrusting, racing and soaring with the melodies and the passion - and with Perrett's vocals intertwined - the lyrics telling stories of love n life... Always completing the perfecton.

The Only Ones self titled first album was one of the greatest records ever made - And still stands the test of time, getting better and better... And this rare live recording from the band is equally good.

If you were there then you will already have this and don't need me to tell you... If you weren't there then you need to listen to this cos you missed out and this is as close as you will get to the beating heart of pure rock n roll!

Perrett tells the crowd on The Big Sleep...'Contrary to what people believe, this is the only song I've ever written about drugs' - The band then deliver a wonderful rendition of 'The Beast'. I got to admit, I'm not sure about that... 'Another Girl, Another Planet' follows with 'You get under my skin, but I don't find it irritating...'!

The thing is, who gives a damn... The Only Ones simply were superb, and this cd is definitely worth a listen, cos it really is true... 'There's no cure... THERE'S NO CURE!'
