Light hearted film with memorable scenes

I recall watching The Quiet Man one rainy Saturday afternoon at my parent's home in my younger years and always thought of John Wayne with the tough guy image. This film proved to be his shining moment when showing his more romantic side and when he acted alongside Maureen O'Hara as the romantic interest it showed well on screen the character's gel well together. The supporting cast of Ward Bond, Barry Fritzgerald and Victor McLaughlin (Who had previously been a boxer before Hollywood beckoned) work well together with Wayne and O'Hara. It's the case of the path of true love doesn't run smoothly throw in a boxing match, having to defend the love of your life's honour. Of course John Ford's excellent back drop of the Irish setting helps to move the story along with memorable scenes (the boxing match fought around the village). What is equally enjoyable is the musical score it's a timeless classic which never goes out of fashion with a memory of the rainy afternoon and a lovely film to be enjoyed time and time again.Read full review

Great value, classic, great movie.

This is a classic movie. A comedy love story. Brilliantly played by the Duke, John Wayne. Made me forget the troubled world we are all living in at the moment. I was catapulted back in time when the world was a simpler and uncomplicated place to live in. Well worth the money. 👍Read full review

Just another John Wayne film

I had a thought, now that i have more time on my hands i took a copy list of the top 50 of John Wayne films with the intention of working my way through them.i have now watched the top 10 on the list, and have come to the conclusion, that having seen one J.W. film, you have seen them all. His acting ability is in question, i have over the years thought, against the opinions of some of my very good friends, that he was very good, now i am sitting on the fence.Lawrence HRead full review

Lovely film

Set in the west of Ireland. John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara at their best. Although this is a Hollywood film, it does not have a Hollywood feel to it - in fact it sometimes has a British Isles quality about it.Read full review
