AGlimpse of country life as it was.
This was a very good serial in it's time. The serial portrays the era well Joseph O'Conor was a very welcome member of the cast. Glad it was made so much on location. The subsequent film was brilliant.Read full review

How entertaining drama used to be
A good BBC drama from 1968 - this provided much inspiration for the making of the 1970 film. Good acting and a faithful interpretation of the story ensures it entertains. Actually filmed on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, which had not yet opened to the public.
The quality of the recording is fairly good - with some 'lines' and imperfections visible at the beginning of each episode - but this does not spoil it. After all - this is from 1968 when TV was 405 lines and in black & white. No bad language or violence - just a wholesome story!Read full review

A nostalgic reminder of Edwardian children’s lives and how they adapted to an unexpected change in their lives.
A trip down memory lane with this original bbc adaptation of the book I had loved as a child in the 1950’s and then read to my own children years later. I never thought I would be able to watch it again so many years later thanks to modern technology!!Read full review
