Shape of Water is right off the back NOT safe for work. So be warned for parents who're wanting to watch the film with little kidos around.
Aside from that, the story, character design, settings, moods, AND MUSIC- are absolutely gorgeous, well thought out, and all in all amazing. Del Toro is undoubtedly the king of monsters because he sure as hell made one hell of a monster.

I think the movie was overhyped to SELL it. It's certainly way overpriced. There was almost no story at all to the movie.... just the special effects and a good looking 'innocent' girl who likes big 'wet' ones. Guillermo del Toro's second Oscar Winner!!!

I did originally own the previous version to this Oscar-winning movie. The same goes to another Academy award-winning film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. So, I decided to update the ones that I had. And to tell the truth: I'm glad that I did. Anyway, I read many years ago that director Guillermo del Toro said in an interview that if this film didn't do so well in theaters, then he would retire from filmmaking. The monster lives in water 90% of time and out 10% of time falls in love with girl.

An excellent romantic story of a mute and a captive monster. She feels they are the samme in that she can't talk and he can't talk. So she teaches him some sign and helps him against the bad guys. Very good story line.Read full review
