Bulldozing rock-techno hybrid

FAT OF THE LAND was nominated for a 1998 Grammy for Best Rock Album.Among the most anticipated releases of 1997, The Prodigy's third full-length album is a bulldozing rock-techno hybrid. But while the guitar/samples/hyper-beats mosaic that made "Firestarter" an MTV breakout are found in every nook and cranny of this album, the overall building blocks are far more diverse, making it a tangible melting pot of pre-millennium pop styles. There's a definite hip-hop element here. "Diesel Power," which features quality mic control by Kool Keith (of Ultramagnetic MCs and Dr. Octagon fame), is new-style hip-hop sculpture, applying techno and acid-house textures to apocalyptic ends. Both "Funky S***" and "Smack My Bitch Up" are throbbing dance-floor ejaculations wrapped around, respectively, Beastie Boys and De La Soul refrains. Kula Shaker's Crispin Mills adds vocals to an Eastern-influenced trance workout called "Narayan." All this adds up to proof positive that THE FAT OF THE LAND is just the tip of the iceberg.Read full review...

The Prodigy - Fat of the Land (CD 2004)

This is a fab album. The Prodigy do intro's like no other band and the beats are amazing. The intro to smack my b***h up is the best intro ever! The lyrics are questionable but the melody (sounds too tame a word!) more than make up for it. Fantastic album, had it on tape for years and wanted it back in the car so I bought the CD!!Read full review...

i am stuffed

I saw The Prodigy live at a Tribal Gahering and this album does justice to some of the best tunes ever released in the rave era. It's a great album to listen to in the car a Smack my B*tch up does justice to my subwoofer. Some of it might sound a bit dated now but it's a good reminder of what you can do with a few synths and drum machines in order to produce decent music. If you ine after sounds that blow your mind this is what you need!!!Read full review...

The fat of the land

Out there, full on music... Warning don't listen to 'Breath' whilst driving,as it tends to make you drive quite fast. Well it does me anyway (obviously a simpleton)all in all a bit hit and miss, but give it a try you may like it.Read full review...
