The Tudors Series One

I originally watched the series on TV and loved it.
It is well written, very well acted (Henry is very menacing) and well put together.
The choice of actors is great, Sam Neill is brilliant and manipulative as Cardinal Wolsey and as I said the coice to play Henry is a master stroke.
Anne Boleyn is devious, clever and sly and gets what she deserves!!
The series has its raunchy moments but portrays,I feel, a good reflection of the life and times of Henry VIII.
If you like historical dramas this is probably one for the collection.

Sheer Entertainment from Start to Finish!

I saw the series on BBC 2 when it was shown at the end of last year and I was hooked, from the very first episode I knew it was something special. Nothing had made me as excited or look forward to watching something in a long while and I couldn't wait for the next installment. Many people have moaned about it not being accurate or true to history, it has been made purely for entertainment value and that is what it does entertain. This has got to be my favourite DVD and I have watched it over and over again. Of course it helps that Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Henry Cavill are very much easy on the eye! I can't wait for the next series which I believe is currently being shown on Showtime in the US and doing well and I have also heard that Michael Hirst is already writing Season III. I personally can't wait and will be getting them all on DVD once released. If you like history and enjoy watching period dramas, plus don't mind a bit of fiction thrown in then I would say this would be right up your street.Read full review...

The Tudors

This is an excellent series delivered once again by the bbc and hbo. Althouigh it only covers the initial part of Henry V111's reign i am sure that there are further instalments to come. The plots keep on coming and keep you guessing. The price was competitive through e bay. I particularly liked Sam Neil as Wolsey. Although he has now departed from the series i hope someone will replace him as he was a delight to watch. The film certainly had its share of nudity which at times although it had a 15 certificate i felt an 18 would have sufficed at times due to the age of the audience. All together an excellent film series.Read full review...

The Tudors- Series 1- (DVD)

I am a great history buff, and the Tudor period is my favourite. So much treachery and backstabbing literally!! This is a great t.v. drama about the young King Henry VIII, his court, his subjects, his great love for the Lady Ann Boleyn and his neverending battle with the church to allow him to divorce Queen Catherine so that he may marry Ann. Great viewing but not for the younger members of the family as it contains scenes of a strong sexual nature.Read full review...

entertaining dvd

The tudors from a modern day perspective. The Tudors did not behave like modern people but modern peoples ideas and attitudes are transposed into a tudor setting. Some deviations from history for dramatic effect. Wolsley did not slit his throat he died on the way to York from London. Overall visually pleasant and a good series but historically a bit inaccurate but this doesnt detract. its good entertainment. I will be buying episodes 2-4 so thats how good it is.
I would be cautious about recommending this product to a friend some of the scenes are a bit naughty. My nephew is doing the tudors at school but couldnt let him watch this!! OK for grown ups though

EXCELLENT

Absolutely riveted, I missed the first episodes, so decided to abstain and watch on dvd. When I borrowed the dvd, the intention was to watch an episode every now and again...pah...ended up watching the first three back to back and continued in that vain, three days later I had watched them all!

Ok so the facts are loose, but who cares. It is a rollercoaster of adrama series with excellent actors/actresses that is fast paced and full of intrigue, it reels you in and before you know it you are hooked.

THE TUDORS SERIES 1

Initially I did not think this would be for me, I am not into costume drama! However I was persuaded to watch episode one, and was hooked within the first 15 minutes, this is a stupendous drama series. The acting was first rate, particularly Jonathon Rhys Meyers as the young Henry V111. This was a King Henry I didn't know existed - young, sexy, vibrant. Sam Neill is also superb as Cardinal Wolsey. The script has a fresh modern feel which sweeps you along as you become engrossed in the storylines. The main plot line is Henry's desire to marry Anne Bolyne and to end his marriage to the queen and all the various machinations that requires, but interwoven into this story we see the plague which sweeps the country and the various allegiences with other countries in times of war. By the end of the 10 episodes that comprise series one I was 'gagging' for the second series and look forward to the return of all my favourite characters, including apparetnly Peter O'Toole as the pope!Read full review...
