Hugely important CD, highly enjoyable, well worth seeking out.

Some records achieve their iconic status by representing a high point, the culmination of an artist's work. The Beatles' Sgt Pepper is an example. Another might be Love's Forever Changes. Others are more seminal, blazing a trail for the rest to follow. The John Mayall/Eric Clapton Bluesbreakers set is a case in point. Another might be Terry Riley's A Rainbow in Curved Air, which paved the way for extended works such as Tubular Bells. The Velvet Underground and Nico is one of the latter. An avant garde band made up of disparate musicians, promoted by the pop artist Andy Warhol, their sound was rough, menacing and relentless. There were glimpses of decadence (Venus In Furs) and lowlife (Waiting For My Man) and in general their uncomfortable vision meant that nothing was going to be the same again. With this album, pop music demonstrated that it had known sin.
All this happened more than forty years ago. Since then we have had every permutation of influences, originality, high concept and street-level audacity displayed, explored, and regurgitated. Revisiting it now, after all these years, is to rediscover the mother lode. To hear it for the first time unlocks the history of pop itself. This is where we had to go in order to get where we are now. If you only buy three records from the 60s, make sure this is one of them.

Inspirational album

This album was one of the main influences of my band Simple Minds, and also , when I joined German band Propaganda, I found out that they were heavily influenced by the Velvets too, in fact we played 'Femme Fatale' live on our World Tour. It is a truly inspirational album, and shows young musicians, that you don't have to be the best player, or singer in the World to have a succesful career. Just stay 'cool' and all tomorrows parties will be yours. I would highly recommend this album to anyone learning their craft in the music business. Thank you ebay. You are truly a wonderful medium to be involved in.

One of the top 100 of all time! Everyone should own this album. Only a fool would not appreciate what it is about and how influential it has been. An album which sounds like it was made yesterday and will never go out of fashion!Read full review...

Goodbye to the old - hello to the new!

I bought this item as I was selling my old 1970's LP version as I no longer have a record player and couldn't do without not having this particular CD around. It is of excellent condition and really great value for money not to mention bringing back lots of good memories from days gone by.Read full review...

The Velvet Underground And Nico

Enough words have been written about this album over the years - not all complimentary. If you can get past those and listen to the tracks you will understand why this rates as one of the best albums produced to date. Surpasses anything to come out of the 60's era by a long way. A must for anyone.Read full review...

Simply Great!

Fantastic CD, with good music. Some songs were used in the movie TheDoors (shiny shiny, shiny boots of leather).
