And I HATE American series!
On listening to BBC Radio 5 the Wire was recommended as a must watch. BBC2 purchased the rights and showed all 5 series early last year.....wow, I was hooked. The writing is very clever with multi layered stories running through the whole series. The cast is typical HBO stock and is to a high standard.
The story line is tough but keeps you gripped to the extent that it is a real disapointment when the series ends. Buy this, watch it twice and quickly move on to series 2, 3, 4 & 5 oh and dont forget the pre-qual The Corner.Read full review...
The Wire - series 1 - buy it
Being a big fan of TV shows such as the shield, the sopranos and 24: I was sceptical after a friend recommended the wire "as good as if not better than the shield". I'm not sure if I could say it is better than the shield but, the wire is a brilliant programme that you will not want to turn off. After watching series 1 & 2, I have decided to purchase all other available seasons. BUY IT!!! You wont regret it.Read full review...

Introduced to the Wire by my boy but as usual missed the start and only joined for series 4. If you like things like the Sopranos - Prison Break - Dexter this is for you. Bit hard to understand some of the American English but quality series, a real gem.Read full review...

The Wire Complete Season 1
I thought (based on popular opinion) that this would be brilliant. I was wrong. Its very average. You'd be much better off spending your money on The Shield or OZ if you want a gritty US crime drama.

Compelling viewing with a gripping storyline that will run and run. Heard of the series through a reccomendation and so glad I got the series. Now onto series two and still hooked!

Was recommended this by a friend, I have watched the first five episodes in two days, I'm hooked! Would recommend this to anyone who likes the soprano's.

Its brilliant, what more can be said? The finest drama series of the decade. Us British used to make dramas as good as this.
