Thomas And The Magic Railroad (DVD 2000)

I bought the Thomas & the Magic Railroad DVD to upgrade from Video. My eldest lad loved the film, but when we came across it earlier this year it was battered & skipping slightly, so we had decided that an upgrade was certainly needed for his younger brother.
The dvd is Americanized, but full of fun for the whole family. Featuring Deisil 10 & pinchy, Lady, Thomas & his friends, along with Sir Topham Hat & Mr conductor this film certainly captures the young imagination. My lads have an 8 year age gap, but as they are both Thomas Fans, this really was a Superb Family film!
This certainly was a brilliant upgrade, from a great seller. Would recommend to any Thomas Fan!

My 4 year old son loved this film, however...

I bought this film having seen it for sale at the National Railway Museum's Thomas The Tank Engine Shop in York. My 4 year old son is Thomas mad and has many of the TV based DVD's and I thought at least another DVD would stop me having to watch the same ones over and over again.

This film is unlike any other Thomas movie as it is an american bastardised version of the Thomas we know and love. Unlike the usual Thomas the Tank Engine programs, this one employs actors to voice every engine unlike the usual narative by Ringo or Michael Angelis. Once you get over the shock of this the film is generally all round family entertainment. My son was a little scared of Diesel 10 [but then again who isn't!].

I would recommend this for Thomas Mad children, however, the feature length "Calling All Engines" is more my cup of tea and takes less getting used to but then again I'm 31 and reviewing a film aimed at 4-8 year olds. Maybe I should get out more.

Thomas and the Magic Railroad - great entertainment

I had a copy of Thomas and the Magic Railroad on video but after my video broke, I had to buy the DVD as my son just loves this film. Great all round family entertainment. Any Thomas Tank engine fan will love watching this film over and over.Read full review...

Thomas and the Magic Railroad

I bought this for my grand daughter who is steam train mad and loves Thomas. Had to review the dvd to ensure it played before she came down and her grandad sat and watched it the whole way through without even the excuse of having a child there to watch it with! The story line is both simple and complex. It is simple enough for a small child to understand but contains more complex items that make it interesting to adults. Being a Thomas story, of course it has a moral and several learning points and the baddy (diesel 10) gets his comeuppance in the end. There are some very interesting ideas that introduce space / time ideas to small children in the guise of magic. The story moves along quickly so small children don't get bored. Enjoyed watching it and will will be watching it several more times with my grand daughter.Read full review...

terrible americanisation of thomas... should be banned

i may be 32 years old but i know terrible kids entertainment when i see it. unfortunately my 3 year old son doesn't and is blinkered by the fact that it contains speaking trains... thats good enough for him! he doesn't hear the terrible accents they have given all the trains or the achingly bad lines like 'far away across oceans of time'. this film really sucks and if you are in any way a fan of any of the thomas and friends series then stay well away from this. if i hadn't bought it for my son's birthday then i would have burnt it days ago... but then again, maybe this film wasn't aimed at me :)Read full review...

Thomas and the Magic Railroad

Brilliant film for all ages. I bought this for my 3 year old son as he absolutely loves anything Thomas by the time the film was ending the whole family including 2 teenagers were all there watching. It trualy is a film everyone, not just Thomas fans, would thoroughly enjoy. There are a lot of well known actor involved in this production, including Thomas of course. There are no parts that i would worry about my youngster watching, which is a bonus
Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish and at a very good price from ebay

Thomas and the Majic Railroad

The film is very well done, it takes a while to get used to watching Thomas with American accents but my kids love it. I purchased this to replace the vhs version which was watched so many times the tape wore out. I got a big hug and a thank you when the disc arrived.Read full review...
