The 2012 Remasters are the best they've ever sounded.
After the Beatles remastering in 2009, it was time for a Beach Boys update. Yes, they had just released the 'twofer' series with bonus tracks in 2001, but there were deeper sounds to be heard. 12 albums were chosen and Today was one of them. It features the hits "Help Me Rhonda" & "When I Grow Up To Be A Man" which are stunning in this collection. Your desired listening pleasure, mono and stereo are both featured. INHO, the Beach Boys 'Surfer Girl' album shines the most in the 2012 remastered series. But check out your favorite Beach Boys CD in this series and judge for yourselves how good it is! Stereo mix not so good. . .
The mono tracks sound great, but the stereo ones don't compared to other mixes I have heard. The tracks were supposedly remixed by Mark Linett in 2012, but NOT for the better. Stereo separation is not as good as previous/possibly later remixes that I have heard. The sound is sort of "tinny" so you have to turn the treble down and the bass up in order to listen to it. I have heard better stereo mixes on YouTube, but don't know when they were mixed. Better than having nothing at all.Read full review...
