Does the job great.
I'm giving this a cautious five stars. I bought a refurbished product that looks and works like brand spanking new. Am extremely happy with it so far. My only reserve is whether it will continue to work perfectly for a number of years--I've only used it for a couple of weeks. Time will tell. I love being able to export recordings, a feature I've not had with previous PVRs.Read full review

Remote hand controller has a short life span
Counting the hand piece that came originally with the Topfield this is my 3rd. Each time different buttons failed to work. I wonder how long this one will last.
The buttons are too small and hard to read unless there is perfect light.
Buttons have multiple functions that can be confusing when something needs to be done with the hand piece.
The Topfield is a good product that is badly let down by the sub standard remote hand controller.Read full review

Advanced, versatile, quirky PVR - Brilliant for video enthusiasts
I own three of this particular Topfield TRF-7160 model. Twin-tuner, Quad-record, Series-record, Archive capability, Internet connectivity. Advanced features make this a brilliant and versatile, if quirky, PVR. It enables local storage and preservation of rare prized content which even in these times of always-on streaming is often desired. Create and name endless folders and move content around within them for customised archiving. Ad-skipping on playback can be customised. Bookmarks added to program files enable pinpointing of scenes. In addition, many TAP files (Topfield Application Programs) are available from enthusiast blogs and forums which, when installed, add custom features to enhance functionality even further.
Generally fitted with 500GB hard drives as standard - usually Western Digital. However, although undocumented, the hardware supports up to 2TB drives without issues, as long as AV-specific drives are used. The supplied remote control isn't the most robust out there, but is versatile and perfectly durable under normal usage. In the event of damage or failure, identical third-party replacements are abundantly available on eBay for around $20.
Naturally, any device as feature-packed as this has a learning curve. Some behaviours are quite eccentric and can be initially puzzling, but once mastered and understood, the machine is beautifully intuitive and responsive. I've bought two of mine in as-new condition VERY cheaply on eBay from people who perhaps hadn't taken the time to learn their quirks, and possibly sold them off thinking the devices were faulty. But for the genuine video enthusiast, this machine is well-worth the time investment to master and will deliver reliable, plentiful rewards.
**I should state here that I'm NOT affiliated with the company in any way, and am purely a dedicated user and long-time fan.Read full review

Topfield remote review
We have had a Topfield Digital Receiver for a number of years & as such its probably fair that the remote has worn out. We ordered and received a replacement remote control in good time. the remote works perfectly, as it should. Is it good valve, well it seems its quite a simple remote and many opinions suggest that its over price. Is it of good quality, well only time will tell that. So far so good.Read full review

Good, but a little care needed
The 'play' and 'fast forward' buttons on my original Topfield remote wore out, so it was a treat (and relief) to receive this fully operational remote.
It's lighter and not quite as sturdy as the original. But works well, apart for a a small glitch....
I find that I have to be carefull when pushing the buttons - if the button is pushed at even a slight angle, it will 'catch' under the surround and stay 'down'. This can lead to crazy on screen flickering if you don't notice, particularly when you push another button. (E.g. 'Pause' gets stuck, and then you push 'Play').
Provided I watch what I'm doing, it's fine.Read full review

Relieved and satisfied.
It worked! Great relief for my mother to be able to use her PVR again as she has many recorded programs to watch. Some of the buttons are a little wonky - so careful use of remote.

Quick and easy to use
I had been suffering the old remote for a long time, and then it stopped working. This new remote works so easily. I hadn't realised so much trouble with the PVR was the old remote. Now it's like new again. All I had to do was put in batteries. The buttons on this new remote are a little different, so I have to get used to this.Read full review

Great, just need a better fast forward button.
This is my 2nd remote for my tv recorder. My biggy is why is the fast forward button so small as its the most important button n wears out in 12mths? Make it bigger please. Otherwise I love my topfield recorder its on 5yrs old n still running perfectly. Read full review

It Works!!!!
It is user friendly however the buttons do get stuck in their holes sometimes when you press them. This would be my only criticism of the product. It is a cheaper version of the original remote that came with the Topfield box. Read full review
