Denzel is a bad boy

I really enjoyed seeing Denzel in this role. He plays a corrupt cop who influences a rookie to take part in his dirty ways. The movie features quite a few big name actors/actresses. Storyline overall is good, I thought it was well directed. You just don't know where the movie will turn next. You'll be asking yourself, 'how could it get any worse for this rookie cop?'Read full review...

High-Caliber

This movie has enough action to keep you awake, but not so much so as to take away from the other aspects of the film. The plot is lively and includes several twists that aren't violent enough to cause seasickness, but are just right. There is a sprinkling of comedy and definitely some sexiness, too. The cinematography matches the film well. Ethan Hawke and Denzel are both great actors, and play their roles well. Coming from LA, I'd like to point out that the film seems to be a little bit of an exaggeration--but not that much, I'm sure.

Get this movie, it's entertaining for anyone who is capable of being entertained.

You wanna go home or jail?

I remember being lent this on DVD during the summer holidays by a mate soon after it was out. I must have watched it every day/second day for about a month! I loved it so much I could never get enough. Denzel and Ethan are a perfect match for this movie; I can't imagine anyone else playing their rolls. Can you? You will either love this movie or find it just a way to 'pass a night'. If you connect with it then you'll never forget it. I know I haven't and I haven't watched it since 2002 because I can remember every part in detail! Training Day is one of those movies which breaks new ground in terms of how a movie can come across to people. It was filmed in such locations such as Imperial Courts neighborhood which, until now, hasn't been filmed. The talk is the talk... you get a real sense of what it's like for these guys as narcotic officers and for what it's like for these guys as the 'bad guys' themselves. At the end of they day they're "Just people and they always were" (Ethan Hawk in a making of Traning day interview).

The movie isn't the fastest paced one around - there are some slow moments but they are played out meaningfully due to some great acting talent which gels the scenes together well. The more you watch it, the more subtle lines and actions you will pick up which make this movie authentic.

Overall, to each his own. I have found this to be one of my favorite movies due to great acting, great directing, great casting (Hawk, Washington, Scott Glen etc) and an interesting storyline.

Training Day - English Project Review Paper

Training day is the best action, good cop vs. bad cop movie of all time. Of the movies I enjoy, this is the best and once you read this, you too may agree why this is the best ‘Training Day’ anyone could ever have. If you like to watch a film where you are pulled through the movie, scene to scene until the end, with out any down time, then you must watch this movie.

I have watched this film over and over again. I first saw the film with my mother. The trailers grabbed my attention in such a way that I thought it was ‘ok’ to take mother, but throughout the movie learned that this film was much harder than expected. I then bought the DVD and have since watched this film over and over again, easily over 10 times. I can replay the movie in my mind, scene after scene and nearly line for line. The movie won academy awards in 2001, Denzel Washington won the Academy Award for Best Actor and Ethan Hawk was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
If you love action, twists, emotion, all in a story that is believable, then this movie is for you. Even after I felt that the film may not have been so good for ‘mother’ to watch, she too proclaimed how well the film was done. The story is about one day in the life of the rookie. He is working his way up to detective and all he knows is what was taught in the police academy. On the flip side is Alonzo Harris, played by Denzel Washington. He lives and breaths the streets, turns his back on smaller crime to tangle with the bid dogs. He has created relationships with some criminals, but will stab them in the back to get what he wants.

The movie plays on many great twists where Alonzo Harris plays the good cop, gone bad. Ethan Hawk, as Jake Hoyt is the rookie cops, who on his first day, his Training Day, lives through many challenges and tough decisions, some that save his life. Alonzo uses his power to try and clean up a personal mess he created for himself with a gambling bet gone badly in Vegas. He is out to do whatever it takes. He needs to get his hands on a very large amount of money fast, before midnight, and he has one hell of a plan that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire movie.

The movie has non-stop action from the beginning where you learn of Alonzo’s attitude during the first scene in the coffee shop, where Hoyt becomes Alonzo’s morning entertainment. Alonzo isn’t interested in anything anyone has to say, unless it is part of his plan. If all goes well for Alonzo, he will settle his debt with the Russians and go on with his dirty life, unless Hoyt gets in the way. The movie keeps you interested, wondering what next. One scene, Alonzo illegally stops a car and steals their dope, in another scene Alonzo holds a gun to Hoyt’s head and tells him to either smoke the drugs or get out of the car. Hoyt’s desire to become more than he already is has him make some tough decisions that all play right into Alonzo’s plan. There is only one scene in the movie that allows for a quick breather before the action kicks in again.

There are many elements in this project and in the movie that go against society’s norms. Gambling, drugs, guns, sex, rape, dirty politicians, drug money, stolen goods, and revenge give much to this movies intensity. For those of us who live life by the book and every now and again want to see what it would be like to live a life of crime, then this movie is for you.

Good quality!

Exciting drama action film! Portrays actor Denzel Washington as a cop gone bad. It depicts the almost real life fact of what could happen when the law goes above the law allowing a member of an agency to go unreigned doing almost anything he pleases. Involves a narcotics officer on the take with some supervisors also in on the take. Fast money, drugs, betrayal and greed abound.Read full review...
