I saw the Tung-sol reissues were rated very highly in a comparison and so I replaced my what must have been Sovtek factory seconds (see one pictured with misplaced getter.) Now for the first time my Crate V100t sounds sweet. I bought it on close out several years ago and figured the amp, designed by Loud Technologies, was just badly built. Now its my favorite.

tung-sol 12ax7
tried it in V1 position of my jca20h, converted to a jcm800 preamp with 6cm6 output vavles. ive also installed an effects loop, and a resonance mod.
this tube brought out a very musical gain to my amp, made it sound even better.
i believe its a spiral filament variety which helps to make the tube noise free. ive read that the spiral filaments aren't good in cathode followers.
i swapped it out with an EH 12ax7 which is also spiral filament and the tungsol sounded better to me, more gain, tighter low end and a nice midrange tone that id say goes very well with my amp.
for 17 bucks shipped to my apt in 3 days, cant beat that with a stick. im very happy with my purchase!Read full review...

I bought this 12ax7 in addition to a Sovtek EL84 to upgrade my Bugera T5. I am blown away by how much this tube swap made. The Bugera was a decent sounding amp but it was a little dark and when pushed didn't always sound great to me. With these tubes the amp came alive. The dark sound is gone and it is articulate in a new way. I can hear my guitar like never before. When I used the 6 way voicing switch on my Roadhouse strat before the changes were subtle. Tung Sol reissue 12AX7
I have bought and used many of these in various amps. It is a rugged, quiet tube with excellent balance in tone. I do like to mix tubes in various parts of the preamp. These Russian TS ri tubes work equally well in V1, in Reverb recover or post EQ recovery gain positions. They can be used in every position, though be aware if you’re adding gain to the Reverb or PI as they are often designed for AT7 gain.

great classic sounding tube
The best new production tube on the market. Great for V1. Thick and crunchy tone. Good gain but not too harsh and muddy. Great transparent clean sound as well. Don't waste your money on the others. The only other reasonably priced tubes to consider are the NOS Beijing 6n4j's if you can find them. Of course there's a lot of old stock tubes that last longer and beat the pants off of anything new but they are pricey and it's a roll of the dice when it comes to tubes that are half a century old. Used it as a low gain replacement in the EVH 5150 III and it works great. Placed the tube in V1. Cleaner clean channel and pulls back a little bit of gain in the blue and red channels.
