An obscure shmup gem
The gameplay is not quite as unforgiving as Gradius or R Type, it gives you more opportunities to succeed than most shooters. You can choose how you go about each mission with special weapons, but balances out by having you purchase them. Any leftover specials at the end of a mission is actually paid back to you, yet if you die, you lose the money you paid as well as the weapons.
There's two difficulty modes, 3 different pilots, 8 planes to upgrade to, and at least 10 or 11 different weapons. It really creates a lot of replay value.
This is one of those games that watching game play videos will help a lot in deciding if it's your kind of game. For shmup fans, I'm confident you'll love this one of you have not played it before!Read full review

Shoot them before they shoot you, and get paid.
I never knew one of my favorite arcade games was on SNES. Back in the day the quarters dropped like crazy for this two player game that lit up the skies, albeit on a well lit screen. With many different weapons to buy, you pilot a plane as one of three mercenary pilots and roast the baddies from a desert outpost called Area-88. Several scenarios await, from on high in the clouds, through canyons, around a palace, and of course, the obligatory enemy military base.
The Super Nintendo version of this game is very good, with features not found in the original arcade version, mainly the piloting of different kinds of planes, each with their own attributes and weapon systems capabilities. What is missing from this, a rather glaring omission, is two player mode, along with one of the pilots lacking his two-way vulcan cannon, which made him a great choice for beginners. Other than that the adaptation is terrific, and the game is thoroughly enjoyable if you like shooters.
The game is pretty hard, but you develop some intuition and before you know it, you've made it. The music is excellent, a product of its time, and the controls are fairly smooth. One of the best five shooters for SNES, easily. Check it out!Read full review
Get Ready For Liftoff!
Fun game overall and challenging. There are lots of play options so it keeps a good amount of variety. Sometimes it gets the dreaded SNES slowdown when there's a lot going on on the screen but it's not enough to discourage me from playing it. Overall a fun game at a good price.Read full review

Amazing!
Got into retro gaming to replay all the games that came out when I was a kid. Kept seeing UN Squadron on YouTube as one of the best “shoot em ups” after playing gradius 3 and I couldn’t be happier. Just wish I would’ve discovered it soonerRead full review
