U480 CAN OBD2 Engine Fault Code Reader
I purchased the U480 and then noticed in the item description that it was stated in small print that it did not work on a Ford. I went ahead with the purchase to use it on other vehicles or pass it along but I found it was compatible with my Ford 98 F150 4.2L. It took some time to figure out that the ignition key position must be just prior to engine start when the "F150 bell is dinging". This is when the F-150 ECM is powered and will present the codes to the U480. The reviews add a lot of good information about the U480 but negative reviews can come from not taking the time to learn about the U480 as well as the vehicle on which it is being used. It is a basic, inexpensive tool that is of good value to any vehicle owner on which it is compatible.

I got this mainly to see for myself what the mechanics were seeing before I went back into the shop... once I verified that they were giving me the truth, I would just clear the "check engine" light until I was ready to get the issue fixed permanently... because I hate seeing that light, especially when I know what it's for already...Read full review

Great deal for the price
(2004 Altima)Worked great for me. Got the code and ordered parts needed then did it myself. Was charged for $525 by Midas for one ignition coil and was told it was already discounted. After 2 weeks, same problem again then this OBDII scanner popped up in to my head and ordered it, came in time and replaced all the for coils including the one that Midas has replaced, did it for less than 30 minutes and it’s done. U480 code reader
Only used it once, read a P0420 on a 2006 Vue. My EasyOBD2 acknowledged the DTC but could not identify it as a P0420. Both can erase the code.
