Very handy speed controller
Reading a few reviews on this claiming their fans splitter when using this to turn it down, that is probably due to the type of fan you use.
On a standard clamp on 6'' fan it can hold the speed very well with no problems. Might have a slight hum from plug but not noticed that myself yet.
On a centrifugal fan it seems ok, it won't come on until the power is turned up to 3/4 speed but it's still a lot slower (same as the clip on fan)
Now on a cheap ass 12v fan it's a disaster it splutters away and is on full blast within a 1/4 turn.
The fan is for up to 300w so I guess the better quality the fan the better the result with this.
I've got to say I'm happy with this but I've only used it a few times yet.
Time will tell but if you need a cheap solution for fan speed this is the one, also works with lamps.Read full review

fan 'controller'
I purchased this for an inline fan , seems to have 2 working settings , on or off. After messing with the dial for 5 or 10 minutes to achieve the fan speed I wanted (or as close to as I could get) I left the fan for 30 minutes and returned to check the temperature , first thing I noticed was the smell of burning paint , the fan casing was too hot to touch and I feared that a fire was imminant!!
This cheap piece of tat is now in the bin and I have ordered a 'proper' controller.'Buy cheap buy twice' certainly applies here.Read full review

Same as the white lamp dimmer switches
Do not be fooled by the product title. These are unfortunately, pretty much the same thing as the white versions meant for lamps. They do regulate fan speed but the make the fan motor buzz loud enough to be a nuisance. I bought both the white "lamp" versions of these and the black "fan" version in this review and they both have the same issue. The chopping frequency they operate at is well within the audible range and that means the fan motor buzzes as the dimmer is rapidly switching the supply on/off (PWM). Granted for a max power rating of 300W, maybe you wont be able to hear the fan motor buzz over the noise of the fan blades, but when you have a small 9 - 12 or 16 inch desk/ floor standing fan, at close proximity and you just want a light breeze, less than the fans lowest setting (why is it that 3 speed desk fans have such little variance between slow and fast speed?!?!), the motor buzz caused by these things is intolerable. I tried one in the office with a 12 inch desk fan where the slowest speed was too much and was giving me neck cramps, and colleagues two and three desks away in an average office were looking at my desk wondering why my fan sounded as if it was straining so much.Read full review

Ok But
This controller does work as stated, however I feel it would be better used as a light dimmer. It does work with a fan, but if you turn it down too low the fan could stop. What I mean by this is, if you were to turn it down low the fan may still work, but if it is oscillating it can slow down the fan enough to stop it without you noticing!
Also it would be nice if there was an actual off switch on the unit.
In summary, it does work, but I would avoid turning it down too
Near the minimum setting.Read full review

Scary loudj buzzing
Don't know of any pros as I can't risk using it, in case it bursts into flames.
CONS : As soon as the fan is connected to the variator, either it or the fan makes a really loud, constant buzzing noise, scary and totally defeating the object so no, I'm not prepared to risk burning my house down. And it isn't a free return so I'd be paying £3, I'll just keep it or bin itRead full review

works ok
this plug works well slowing your fan BUT it will make your fan buzz, if you can put up with a buzzing noise while you sleep then i recommend it, the slower you want the fan to work, the louder the buzz!Read full review
