I had my carpets cleaned "professionslly" a few months ago and was not at all impressed. I have two huskies and a mutt so the high traffic areas of the carpets can get pretty grubby. Great carpet cleaner with minor flaws.
Firstly this does a great job in cleaning carpets and is easy to use as the solution mix is automatic. But...it does use a lot of cleaning solution, carpets do not dry in an hour as stated, and it is fiddly to clean afterwards.However, I would recommend it as it is an overall improvement on my previous model. Performs really well, all plastic so unsure how long it will last
The performance is indeed better than a hired Rug Doctor as advertised. It was easy to assemble and easy to use. Where it really wins is on stairs where the scrubbing hand tool does an excellent job and long hose allows the stairs to all be cleaned with the machine left at the bottom. Because the hose connects low down on the machine it remains stable even with the hose at full stretch. However it does not appear very robustly built, not like the earlier Vax cleaners. Powerful cleaning!
I have had a well used Vax for years, but wanted to upgrade having read the reviews about this one.
I was really impressed with how easy it was to assemble. It's first clean of my carpet (which had been professionally washed 6 months before) brought up an amazing amount of muck! The carpet rinse function is a great idea and the carpet was dry in about 2 hours.
I wouldn't buy the vax at full price and so was pleased to buy one with a significant discount due to a damaged box. Also, I agree with others that you need to consider storage. It's much bigger and heavier than my previous machine.Read full review...

Incredible at reviving carpets!
Unbelievable! Had an old vax for years and yes it did get dirt out but this model is phenomenal. Not only does it get the dirt out it revives the carpet fibres standing them up again and leaving them looking like a new carpet! The auto-mixing is a boon as are the large water and cleaning liquid tanks. Pushing it backwards and forwards is almost as easy as a vacuum cleaner. There is even a rinse mode so if you have the inclination you can go over the carpet again and suck out any chemical residue.
The key to the excellent cleaning is the bank of circular brushes as well as a brush roller.
This machine really is a big step forward in domestic carpet cleaning and as the advertising says it does clean better than professional cleaners.Read full review...
