Electric back wheel.

My kit arrived yesterday and took my about 1.5 hours to fit. It went on without a problem and i'm really happy with the outcome. However, the controller did'nt work and the LCD did'nt report an error code, so i've no idea what the problem is. I tried it on other electri kits i have and it did'nt work on any of them. Luckily, i have s spare controller and omce i set that one up instead all my problems ended. The wheel is fantastic and, other than the broken controller, i'm very happy with my electric.Read full review...

Bad design

This product failed catastrophically on its first outing after 1 or 2 miles
After ascending a moderate slope the hub was overheating and smelling.
On the way home it burnt out completely.
I opened up the hub and found some windings burnt out.

Overheating and excessive current damaged the wheel hub motor.
This is always a possibility of this and a correctly built item must have thermal and current limiting in its construction.
This one does not.

Even worse, it is not fitted with planetary gears in the hub as all fit for purpose hubs are fitted with planetary gears.
This one has no planetary gears at all.
Therefore if is prone to over heating because it has low torque.

Conclusion: do not buy this type of ebike hub. If is very poor design and guaranteed to fail sooner or later, in my case sooner.
Do not waste your money.

Great product

Hi all, first of all it won't take you a hour to fit like it says on some videos on youtube. The first problem i had was the axle (10mm) on the electric hub wouldn't fit into my dropouts which are made of a soft metal Aluminum i think, so i filed either side of the dropouts about half a mil.
Next i had a recess in my suspension forks so i bought some C-washers to strengthen the dropouts. I fitted a torque arm to the axle again for extra support to the forks. Also fitted a bb5 brake caliper because mine was slightly to wide & scraped on the hub
It took me 3 weeks to fix to my bike mainly waiting for parts which i had get from abroad .Finely i bought a 48v battery from China .
So i've been riding the bike for 2 weeks now & found that i could't get use to the PAS which activates the motor when you pedal and there's a short delay to i've taken it off . The twist throttle is sufficient for me. Have fun people i did ,should've bought one ages ago i love it

Not the best quality in the world but exellent for the money

Took some time to fit properly, main problem was getting it to fit nice in the forks, slot had to be ground deeper to alow for the axle to fit in a way that it wont open up the drop out slot with the torque...wheel has a nice wide surface for the rim brakes which work well even though the wheel is now deeper in the forks,
the kit its self works well with better than expected power wisking you up to 30mph in no time without even pedaling, and is smooth and almost silent, unlike geared hubs. id definitly buy another one of these,,

Poor bearings/bent axles and awful square wave controller that only outputs 650w - 1000w 48v front wheel kit

Bought 3 of these Voilamart 1000w 48v front conversion kits at the same time, all 3 had the same problem: Bent axles/tight bearings and REALLY noisy controllers. The bend in the axle makes it feel like you have a tyre fitted unevenly, I had to put every wheel in a vice and bend the axle straight, yes the metal used is quite soft (metal from China is notorious for being soft). The bearings start off tight and bind bud do free up after about 20 miles, but does make you wonder on the quality of them, hence why I have ordered a few sets of SKF bearings ready for when one bikes set fails. As for the controllers, most now use sine wave controllers, these are quiet and smooth, but no, not Voilamart! They use nasty really cheap square wave controllers, this makes the motor sound like a drill when accelerating and cruising with a buzz like a swarm of bees are following you. Also the controller is supposed to output 1000w, I used mine with a Turnigy 100 amp watt meter and it draws 580w peak up a hill under load, a far cry from the 1000w! Ditch the controller for a real 1000w sine wave one! All in all, the actual motor is ok if you are prepared to replace bearings at some stage and possibly need to straighten the axle. The kit is worth the £115 I paid, but no more seeing as you will need to replace the controller (which will mean also replacing the throttle) which is another £50 on top...

*2022 update!
March and the first set of bearings gave up, no warning, just went tight within a mile on a 15 mile ride. Lasted a lot longer than I thought though (about 800 miles). Also keep an eye on the spokes, as they work there way lose over time (twang them with your finger to make sure they all sound about the same note)...
I can't believe the price of the conversion kit has gone up from £115 to £250 though! Shocking...

Carrera vengeance

Had to make a lot of adjustments to my bikes braking system in order for this to fit, firstly the brake calliper being disc brake system, I had to take 2mm off the inside of the calliper as it was rubbing against the motorised hub, also had to get a 2mm spacer to fit inside the mountain bracket for the disc to be central to the brake calliper, just as well I’m an engineer, but it works well now, I have a Carrera vengeance so be prepared Read full review...

dangerous item. rubbish material and tube. not balance.

this brand has a lot issue:
1- the bike goes with full speed when its rainy !! so dangerous and you can not stop it unless disconnect the main power.
2-the tire is the worst quality ever. after 2 month it was completely smooth and flat and after 3 month it was ripped and inner tube came out!
3- the rim is not well balanced and it always shakes and kicks.

Powerful motor

Great item. Have installed it to an old steel framed bike. Very heavy. And it pulls me along also to about 30mph.

Good value

Voilamart are less expensive than CSC and Yose Power kits. The wheel and motor have proved reliable over a year of use (I have 4 of them). The 3 bar voltage indicator is quite basic, but I like the handlebar throttle better than thumb ones. The PAS requires the left pedal to be removed but works well once fitted.Read full review...

A decent kit

Had the 500w version happy with it, sadly i bunny hopped over kerbs too many times and it broke..

The 1000w is very similar to the 500w, slightly higher top speed but packs a better punch climbing the hills in my area which makes it feel a worthy upgrade.Read full review...
