Highly recommeded for all those action movie lovers, 5 stars !!!!!!
I bought this movie as a present for dad, he absolutely loved it, he loved the story , cast and costumes and highly recommends it for those that enjoy action movies.
5 out of 5 .
Jiang Wen; the Chinese Russell Crowe!
I bought this film because of the female lead Zhao Wei (who I had seen in Mulan the Warrior)and because I was intrigued by the insight into China from its burgeoning international film industry. This film too delivers the jaw-dropping locations in Eastern China that are totally new to us in the West plus a lesson in the diversity of the peoples that make up what we know today simply as 'China' and a small window into their long history (basically when we were living in caves they were something like the Wild west once you got into the sticks!
However the real find for me was the lead actor Jiang Wen - a big star, actor/director in China - who is sooo like our own dear Russell Crowe it is untrue - deep voice, stocky build, not handsome but strong looking, huge screen presence. Mind you he can wiggle his ears which I'm not sure RC can...
Well worth a look and a good Western -type yarn which demonstrates how humans everywhere are in fact remarkably similar. If the screenplay is limited (not to say minimalist) that is not a bad thing when you are reading subtitles and visually it is stunning. Mind you their horses are not lookers - precious little Arabian blood there I would say - but some of the camels are cute!Read full review...
