Classic 80's Black Comedy
How to sum up Weekend at Bernies in a few words.....Pure Genius!
How the writer managed to convince a board room to commission a film based around pretending a dead man is still alive is beyond me......but it works, and had me laughing so hard it hurt! This film was so good, the first time I saw it, and it ended I watched it all over again!
The story is centred around Larry (Andrew McCarthy) and Richard (Jonathan Silverman), two low flying employees of Bernie Lomax ( Terry Kiser). The guys manage to stumble across a large financial error on spreadsheets and decide to show this to Bernie, who pretends to be thrilled and invites them to his beach house for the weekend. He actually intends on having them killed for uncovering his grand embezzlement.
When the guys arrive, they discover Bernie's partner in crime, has killed bernie, and fun ensues as instead of reporting his murder, they are convinced they would be arrested and so they pretend he's still alive and have to defend him from further murder attempts by the increasingly angry business partner, with hilarious outcomes.
A must see classic 80's black comedy.
Produced in 1989, not 2001 this is the year the DVD version was released.Read full review...
