All in all this speaker is absolutely excellent, with good character, warmt

I did a little looking about for active sub woofers and there seems to be only a little info available on the web. I did however come across this speaker which is reasonably priced for a 150 watt sub and managed to find a couple of favourable reviews. I am also well aware of the Wharfedale brand which helped stear me towards this speaker.
The first thing to strike me about this speaker was not the speaker itself, but rather the red cheeks of the puffed out delivery driver bringing the unit up the stairs. This is a solid speaker !! The speaker is ported at the bottom and has the various connectors to the rear allowing for left and right input and also 2 sets of outputs for left and right (line and speaker). Also on the back are two knobs one of which is for the volume, but the other is for the crossover which means you can adjust the top frequency of the bass to suit your other speakers. There are also 2 switches at the back one is to select automatic power down and the other is for phase shift. The phase shift is an interesting addition which in the manual suggests you may get a bassier feel although what really accurs is your bass diaghram when toggled will breathe in instead of out and visa versa, but again this could be useful in balancing your system. Generally I feel the addittion of these features are great and useful especially for the audiophile. I am not sure that I could think of anything else that you could add to this sub in regard of connectivity.
After plugging the sub up I slowly cranked up the volume and the bass just creapt out filling the room. The bass sounds imediately warmed the room and filled it so well you wold be hard pushed to know exactly where the speaker was placed. Pushing the volume, this speaker took it in it's stride and suggested a very well matched amp inside for this unit. This speaker gives depth to rumbles and explosions, but also is good at being snappy and defined when dealing with beats.
All in all this speaker is absolutely excellent, with good character, warmth, features and value for money.Read full review...
