Wheels of Fire CD

As good as the vinyl recording I have of one of the greatest rock/blues groups of all time. The musical quality is excellent. Just sit back and listen to what great music came out of this era.
I bought this because I rarely play any LP's any more, and wanted the convenience of being able to take this music with me..be it on the deck, in the garage, or driving. I don't have an IPod so need the old fashioned CD for my listening pleasure.Read full review...

Wheels of Fire- Superb Progressive Rock

Wheels of Fire- Classic Cream and so much more evolved than Disraeli Gears their first album. Not so much that I am a fan of the Blues, far from it, but Cream represents what I like to term the ‘higher octave” of the Blues and no denigration to Willy Dixon, Cream’s rendition of “Spoonful” beats all other versions as does “Crossroads”. Consider this material as Blues on steroids. This is a two CD set, the first is studio takes with obvious overdubs while the second is live. As a fan of music that should be heard the way it sounds, on the stairs in a basement, the garage or otherwise in the audience from a lounge or club to the Fillmore West and the Winterland Ballroom (where the live songs were recorded) the live side mix is far better than usual particularly considering it was pre digital. The sonics have a lot of presence and punch with the only real detraction being drummer Ginger Baker is a little too far in the background (he is a powerhouse drummer and that is lost as recorded here, much like Phil Collins is from Genesis), due partly to the manner the music was mixed and recorded and also portraying the limitations of microphone technology back then (1968). I long ago wore out the vinyl LP edition and thought for a great lengths time was for replacement and I prefer the quality of CD’s over LP’s. All in all, a superb and outstanding Five Star Plus collection.Read full review...

Solid CD!

It's a very solid CD from Cream, one of the best rock bands ever. It's a 2-CD set and the second CD is recorded live. On the first CD is one of my favorite songs of all time - "Those Were The Days". The 2-CD set cost me only $12.60 - a great value!Read full review...
