Boring story about families at the beginning of WWII.

If you know little or nothing about life in Britain at the beginning of WWII, then you may find this novel interesting. Three female friends deal with one of them being German and Jewish despite being brought up in England. This period during the “ Phony War” when England was technically at war but there was little impact on the daily lives of the average women or some of the men. Renewed hatred for the Germans from the memories of WWI impacts the three women’s lives. However, Maria is so limp a figure and so spineless that I didn’t really care what happened to her in the end. Lots of back story to little purpose and a slow and boring read. Read full review

very disappointing

I kept waiting for the book to take off. Her other book, "Lights Over London" was one of the best books I've ever read. I gave up on this book two chapters before the end.and put it in the good will box. That just wasn't worth my time. Read full review
