Simple & straightforward fixing kit

Couldn't believe the Qashqai handle snapped off so easily and was starting to think of where to find a salvaged unit same colour or buying & spraying a new one when came across this kit from X8R on eBay.
Obviously checked out alternatives but this kit really appealed as looked simple to install and came complete with Acetone for fixing. Other cheaper kits seemed to provide separate bolt locations which may have been hard to locate exactly and did not include the acetone.
Instructions were easy to follow and although was initially concerned with getting correct location, the parts were actually very easy to place using the positioning cut-outs integral to the moulding and whole thing was so simple. Great job !!

Does the job but expensive and requires man hours and tools

Did the job refitting existing tailgate handle trim.
Expensive for two small pieces of plastic and tiny bottle of acetone.
Extra costs involved if you don't have all the tools /clamps/sandpaper etc.
Labour involved quite a few man hours, not a simple task for every one.

A First Class Repair Product

This product is very well designed and made. The online tutorial was also easy to follow. The shape of the parts eliminates the margin for error in placement so alignment is perfect. This is the first time I have used a product from X8R but I won't hesitate to use their products in future. Thank you.Read full review...

Brilliant product, very well thought out.

Poor Nissan design meant we needed a repair kit, this is Superb and easy to use, watch the video and anyone could do it. A word of caution though. I decide to us masking tape to protect the paintwork from splashes as recommended, the video also says to add a little extra acetone along the edges of the repair, it doesn't tell you to be careful of the acetone running along the inside and out through the number plate holes, unfortunately mine did and was trapped beneath the masking tape until I removed the tape. It took a small amount of paint off but my Wife was delighted with the repair. How would I get around it next time if there is one - use a small piece of Blutac to prevent any run off of acetone through the holes and keep the repair level while acetone is evaporating. It doesn't take long. Shame they don't do the full set for the inner brackets as well.Read full review...

It does what it says on the tin!

This is an excellent solution to the problem. After watching the X8R video on YouTube the installation was quick, straight forward and has given an excellent result. I am sure that these fixings will be much stronger than the original as two fixing points are connected to each other as well as being bonded to the handle itself. If you watch the installation videos you will see how easy it is to simply snap off the original fixing points with your fingers. The only aspect that takes time is the curing process which X8R recommend as 1 - 2 hours. After that the re-installation takes about 15 minutes. The big bonus of using this option over a new handle is that there is no painting required and the colour match is obviously exact. Very happy to recommend.Read full review...

Fantastic Solution to a Common Problem

Usual story of broken plastic clips on the Qashqai boot handle (You would think after all these years Nissan would have done something to improve the design!). The Nissan dealer water £120 for an equally poorly engineered replacement handle, which would then need painting to match. At under £20 this kit offers a much stronger mod that works perfectly. The seller has an easy to follow instructional video on their website. It took only a few minutes to dismantle the tailgate lining and remove the broken handle. Bonding the new fitting to the back of the handle moulding with the supplied solvent was simple and the longest part of the job (about an hour) was setting the part aside while the solvent bond cured. Reassembly took about 5 minutes more. Brilliant job.Read full review...

Awesome purchase!

I absolutely loved this product. My original clips had all snapped off which meant it was hanging off and stuck down with tape. I saw this product and looked at others but they were just separate clips. I purchased this because they looked easier and you got the acetone with it. I’m glad I did get this one. It’s all measured up so you literally just put the acetone on and clamp down till it’s dried. Jobs done! They manufacturer also went out of their way to message me after just to check I was happy and sorted. At first I thought it looked a bit expensive but when you work it out you get everything you need for this and it’s so easy. Others didn’t have acetone and didn’t look as stable but this one is so sturdy. If I need anything car related again I will definitely see if these have it first. Thank you guys so much.Read full review...

Great money saver for an irritating fault

Apparently the boot clasp is a common fault on Qashqai cars. It would have cost £120 to £200 to get a new handle / have it fitted at a garage. This saved me £100+ , arrived swiftly, great instructions and YouTube videos, fiddly but an easy job to do, just need a couple of hours for the removal, fixing, and replacement. Works brilliantly and feels a really strong handle now. Highly recommend it.Read full review...

Brillianr repair kit

I ordered this with some trepidation as although over many years I have carried out just about job you could think of on a car but this was new territory to me.
Right first off I am English and we like a good moan, I would like to have seen a note in the package about the most excellent instructions either on youtube or pdf file. I chose the latter and printed them off so they were with me to hold my hand. I had some time ago purchased a set of tools for interior trim removal and while not essential they certainly helped (and they were cheap!!).
All went okay hopefully and having followed the instructions I was soon clamping the units onto the trim, again having a Dremmel helped. Then the self doubt kicked in, and I have loads of that, did I use enough acetate; did I leave in long enough to "melt"; etc etc and of course as of today the trim is still on and feels firm again.
As mentioned in one of the other reviews it would be nice to have the centre part replaced as well sort of belt and braces job. One tip, I found the camera mounting plate was quite badly corroded which surprised me. Check on yours and if you have the same problem rub down and paint the plate while you are waiting for the clips to go off.

One other thing, when I lined up the parts I went round the outer edge with a white corrector pen which showed me where the outer limits for the acetate were.

Sorry this has been long winded but this is such a brilliant kit I thought it worthwhile.

Good repair kit, with care producing a sound and satisfying repair

This is a handy repair kit which in my opinion gives a stronger and likely to be longer lasting result than the original clips. The acetone bond is strong and distributed over a larger area, giving it a superior result to the original small (ultimately brittle) clips.

I had been surprised to find my tailgate handle just snapped off one day - all of the little plastic clips inside the handle snapped off if one go. If you look around you will see examples of these broken tailgate handles temporarily taped in place. I looked for a solution, and found that a new, typically black-primed, tailgate handle is about £20 (in 2021), which would require me at additional cost and inconvenience to go to the trouble of having it colour matched at a body shop if I wanted the tailgate handle to match the car bodywork.

Not happy with that option (replace the tailgate handle), I looked further and found the X8R kit. The kit cost less than £20. It takes patience and care, but I have those in spades for the right method. I used a craft knife to remove the remains of the old clips, and a detail sander (mouse) for a good clean smooth surface to bond the new X8R clip plates to. I was careful to avoid acetone getting on to the flip side (outside) of the tailgate handle to ensure it did not mark the paint, and did the acetone bonding outside with the tailgate handle resting on an old towel on a patio table. It did not matter that the two original middle clips had broken off and were not replaced because the two (left and right) X8R clip plates give such a sound fixing. I am very happy with the result.

Does the job well and easy to fit

X8R YouTube procedure made it fool proof to fit and instructions are also easy to follow, the design profile means it self-aligns, be careful with acetone as it has the viscosity of water, an improvement would be if the supplied acetone came as a gel rather than a liquid. Price point high for what you are getting but, that’s my only quibble works very well. Read full review...
