As titled, this phone is bulky compared to most smart phones but is great. I work in a labor intense field, constantly bending, kneeling, laying on the ground, etc. I get better signal, function, and call quality compared to my old phone on the same network. Rugged smartphone for the type of people that shouldn't carry a delicate computer in their pocket.

A great rugged smartphone. It has a removable battery which is great. It's heavier than most. But not that much more than a full-size phone with a rugged Otter/Pelican case.

I'd give it 5 stars *if* it had a 3.5mm audio jack, could be rooted, could use adoptable storage (run apps off the SD card) and didn't have so much proprietary bloatware from the phone network that can't be removed.

UPDATE: FOR SOME REASON THIS PARTICULAR HANDSET WON'T CONNECT TO LTE/4G. AT&T IS SHUTTING DOWN 3G FORCING ME TO BUY A NEW PHONE. I AM PURCHASING ANOTHER XP8 THAT HOPEFULLY DOESN'T HAVE THIS ISSUE. IT WAS ADVERTISED AS *UNLOCKED* BUT THERE IS PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE FROM BELL CANADA THAT MAY BE CAUSING CONNECTIVITY ISSUES. I HAVE REQUESTED A *PARTIAL* REFUND BUT HAVE BEEN REBUFFED. Don't drop it on your toes.

I've only had it for a few weeks, but so far so good. Amazing battery life. I get 2 or 3 days of moderate usage. Mix of some video, music and web browsing as well as a few calls and texts. Configurable PTT button, Alarm button and Yellow button. I simply disabled the PTT and red alarm buttons and use the yellow button for the flashlight, which is decently bright. Screen is super bright, not amazing color reproduction but that's not why you buy a phone like this. The speakers are insanely loud. I'm pretty sure everyone in an airport could hear it ring if I had it all the way up.. Music playback benefits from these speakers. Camera is more than good enough to send people shots of whole pages of text so that they can zoom in enough to read it. Hopefully that gives you an idea. It's not a Samsung or Apple camera, but it does well enough as a backup for my gopro.
Radio seems to have no issues. GPS, 4g, wifi 2.4ghz and 5ghz all work without issues.

My only complaint (not really) so far is that the free version of Pandora has bad glitching on screen when it tries to show you a full screen ad. This results in me not even being able to see the ad and just pressing the back button once. Not exactly a bad thing since I hate ads..

It's responsive and plenty fast enough for me. I'm not a gamer or power user but my phones need to endure a pretty rough life. Hopefully this XP8 is as tough as my old XP5. That thing was basically a brick made into a phone and broke everything it hit rather than breaking itself. Read full review

Good rugged phone.

Rugged and works as it should. Camera is not as good as my samsung. But I could care less as samsung phones only lasted about 6 months average for me. I'm a industrial electrician and am hard on phones. Have dropped this sonim several times and haven't had an issue yet. Samsung with otterbox case would already have a cracked screen and back glass. As long as sonim is making phones that's the brand I will be purchasing. Read full review

I'm that guy that guy that does things that some would question the reasoning behind when it comes to making decisions that put myself in and the things that I carry on my person in damages way at the end of the day I live life to the fullest and expect my technology to as well that being said I have a little to be desired when it comes to the battery life I've heard that it has extremely good battery life in have yet to be absolutely stunned by how long the battery lasts but other than that this is probably the most Stout phone that I've ever been in ownership of wish that there is a company out there that made an extended battery for it that was attached to the back plate that would be pretty sweet but wishful thinking is all I can do most definitely love the phone though definitely worth the value I bought it forRead full review

Very nice rugged phone

What a nice phone! Good reception and call quality. Much better screen and photos than my Moto G. I can normally go a few day without charging the battery. It is big and clunky, but so far, I haven't damaged it. I dropped it once on an asphalt driveway from a height of about 3 ft with no issues. Super loud high quality stereo audio not as bulky as I expected based on photos. American made and no problem with straight talk compatibility.
Android oreo is not my favorite it turns out. I accidentally drop this thing twice every 3 days, and learned that it has a nice bounce to it. Still working like new as soon as sonim releases a new model I'm all in unless they try to make it slimmer or lighter like the rest of the garbage out there. If you have ever cracked your screen and are sick of weak flimsy b.s. phones go with a piece of equipment that can go to work with you. Great Phone!

It's loud, it's heavy with a replaceable battery. That's what I was looking for. I wanted a phone that "works" and I got that in the Sonim. Don't care about streaming movies or a 24Mp camera as I have a 65" TV and Nikon DSLR for that. For the price, I wish I would of bought it sooner.
