Try to make it real, or else forget about it...

The pedal is just an electronic hi hat SOUND controller, appropriate for Yamaha digital drum kits like DTX series or the DD-75. It REQUIRES a stereo RTS cable to work - mine didn't come with one (bought used) and I couldn't get it to work on my DD-75 with a regular instrument cable. I thought it was broken/damaged until I did a little research. With the correct cable it works fine. Seems a little awkward compared to real hihat, but it's light years better then the "button" footswitch that comes with the DD-75. If you want a "real" drum feel from one of these digital units, GET ONE, and the partner kick pedal, too. It really enhances the experience.Read full review
