Light and easy to store

The dimensions my loft access are not compatible with using these ladders as 'pull-down', so I use them as ordinary extendable ladders. They are suitable for this purpose but I can't give a comprehensive rewiew or rating because I can't use them as the 'pull-down' type.Read full review

Struggles to work as the loft floor height approaches 3m

Installed after loft boarding to reach higher than the old ladder. It manages the 2.83m elevation (close to the claimed 3m max) but the pivot bar flexes and pops out of position consistently when the ladder is used. The pivot bar also bends and effectively shortens - which exacerbates the problem. I have mailed the manufacturer to check for potential remedies, but have had no response.
The problem can be managed by manually re-locating the ends of the pivot bar and straightening the bar each time; but calling it a pain in the neck would be speaking too highly of it..

Cheap, wobbly, poorly constructed

There's no denying that all necessary parts were supplied. The delivery was also very quick and efficient. Sadly, that's where the "good" stops.

I fitted this to the loft following the instructions, which were quite reasonable. But, the latches that lock the ladder sections are poorly aligned and don't snap into the holes to lock it. You have to "wiggle" and manipulate the locks to get them to latch into the holes.

I pulled the ladder out of the loft, and the bottom two sections slip straight past the poorly designed end-stops, and crashed onto the floor.

After re-assembling the bottom two sections onto the dangling top section, and making sure all bolts were latched into place, I climbed the ladder which wobbled and flexed so much that I immediately came down before going more than a few steps up, and checked that everything was assembled and locked as it should be.

The sections slide past each other and are kept in place by bent aluminium pieces pop-riveted to each section. If there is any lateral pressure on these they will likely pop off and the whole lot would fall apart.

Sadly, the ladder is made from thin, flimsy section, and the aluminium guides and stops are so poorly and cheaply made that I would never trust the ladder to hold it's rated 150Kg or any weight close to it.

I have installed 2 other loft ladders in other properties I had, and this is by far the "ricketiest", cheaply designed, cheaply made one I have had.

My advise is to pay an extra tenner and get one from the large home DIY shops.

As I have already installed this, I doubt I'll be eligible for a refund, so it'll very shortly be consigned to the back of the local "scrap-waggon" when they come round this way again.

Value for money product

In General as a Entry level type loft ladder I have to say yes it passed all the tests I would impose on it

My only concern was the v bar positioning as it stated in the installation guide, that I should put it in the holes where the top of the back style
after removing the plastic lugs and the end caps.
This was only possible to do after I made the 2 said holes bigger to accept the size of the flatted rods on the end of the v bar
I then cut a notch out of the two plastic end caps and placed them back onto the ends of the back style to avoid chance of being cut on the sharp metal ends of the ladder. I then used hot glue melt to achieve a suitable fix to the metal as there weas no longer any holes available to fasten them with the plastic lugs.
So Job done I checked its stowing and hanging capabilities, which proved to be fine even my partner who is a good 7 inches shorter than me is able to do the whole operation ,
result 9/10 because of the problem with having to re-drill the holes
I would suggest the manufacturers look into this issue as its seems to be the only real problem
Just one other thing also the two paired hinges for the ladder back style ought to have a mention that if they are both showing to be either a left or a right hand , then they can easily be altered simply by undoing them and turning them to face the correct hand that's needed.

Top quality budget ladder

Purchased this ladder as youngman have a pretty good reputation and the price was very good compared to other types of loft ladder. Easy to install with clear instructions and upon completion a very satisfied customer. Yes, you can probably get a more sturdier ladder but for this price you can't fault it. Most of all I felt very safe climbing up and down it. Highly recommendedRead full review

Brilliant except for one smsll niggle

Fitting straight forward if enclosed instructions are followed.. My slight reservation on giving a five star rating is that the ladder does not stow away flat on the loft floor. Because my ladder was installed with a maximum ceiling height of 3 metres the guidance arrangement prevented the ladder stowing flat and is left at an angle.in mid air.Read full review

Good quality which fits in small hatch space & is easy to install. I was only missing one of the gromets to the end of one spring unit which hopefully

Quality at a budget

You pay twice as much for the same quality of product at B&Q, Wickes etc. Quality 3 section ladder.
Only problem with this and all permanent loft ladders, is that ladder takes up space within the loft hatch, so if your hatch is quite small, you might need to have it widened to make getting reasonable size boxes up and downRead full review

Easy to install and great value

Easy to install, I did watch a YouTube video which made the instructions a lot easier to follow! My husband cut the loft hatch to the right size and I installed it whilst he was doing other jobs! Good quality and worth the money.Read full review

Youngman quality

Chose youngman over others due to its recognised trade name... and it has not disappointed!! My first review ever... but couldn’t help myself. Made up with the quality off it an the easy to follow instructions. Piece a cake! I’m a 16 stone well built electrician an I’ve climbed loads of dodgy loft ladders... this one is solid! Made up!!
