The real and essential Vanish bar

These little bars are exactly the individually packaged ones you used to get in Sainsburys, but with no frills, and cheaper. They're no longer sold in Sainsburys.

There is no substitute for rolling up your sleeves and rubbing these bars, whetted, into stubborn stains. Then putting them through a conventional wash.

I've tried using powders etc, but for intensive application, these bars can't be beat.

Grim curry stains, or permanent black ink? Rub in the bar; watch the colour of the stain turn to orange, or light grey (respectively): at that point a conventional wash will remove the stain without trace !Read full review

Always have a bar of this around. It’s the best stain remover for washable things ever. Usually get it from local £1 shop, but my eldest needed one and couldn’t find one where they live. This was cheaper than the postage would have cost to send it to them.Read full review

It is slightly different from the Vanish Bar available in the suoermarket, creamier in colour and not quite so hard, nonetheless it worked very well used on collars and cuffs and also some (unidentifiable) food stains when I was laundering half a dozen shirts. Quite simply the best stain remover after brushing, and dabbing with water, in that order. Better than ordinary soap and water, and better than more complex organic solvents, because Vanish is less likely to leave residual marks, and is less likely to require a subsequent full wash of the stained item.Read full review
