Garmin DriveSmart 55 MT-D 5.5" Sat Nav with Edge to Edge Display

Overall better than TomTom but has weaknesses

Replaced TomTom as their service was terrible and very difficult to contact. Very pleased with good service I had with Garmin after small issue when setting up the "Drive" application
Only 4 stars as found mounting is a bit flimsy and feel it will soon fail and while screen size is almost as big, find the very small writing that is not possible to enlarge (Is 7in Screen better? but this is much more expensive.)
The Speed camera alerts are just a couple of bleeps and again quite small red banner so easy to miss. TomTom has choice of sounds and volume so much better.
Like being able to fully specify route plan and then store it under its own name, best to do this at home but noticed the battery life is then quite short.
The traffic information is via your mobile and while it works not sure of usefulness as on 4 occasions so far has warned me road closed ahead and offered a diversion which I have ignored and found the road is open.

Good value sat nav

The drives mart 55 sat nav is a quality budget device. It has all the necessary features that is expected of a sat nav device. Because of its size, this device is well suited to small vehicles .

Happy with the switch from TomTom.

Have always used TomTom satnavs before buying this, No particular reason for switching just a good offer on eBay.

Took me a while to get it up and running properly (probably due to my previous experience with TomTom) but now that I have had it for a while I'm very happy with it. Still a few things that I would like to get sorted but most electronic equipment, especially when you have changed from another brand, often takes a while to get it the way that you want it.

It looks the part and it should do what it says on the tin, have not used it yet but i should have no problems if it does like the info says. The only question i have is why is this advertised as a LMT-D when it is marked on the satnav MT-D ?.Read full review
