Why low rating

This product came with a battewry that wouls not hold a charge and outdated maps which cost additional 49.95 to upgrade before I could even use it. I purchased this product to replace one with broken scree and ended up taking the screen from this ione and puting it on my old one, which works fine now. Wish I had just bought a new screen. ive and LRead full review

My LG SMARTPHONE DID ME WRONG,so..

I bought this. I used to have the"wayz" app and its coo and everything(easy to use), BUT the signal would get lost and I would keep driving, miss my exit and then it would say"make u turn".
Not with this!!!!!!!!!!! I even get to use my phone and send texts and play candy crush while driving,(totally kidding)since my phone isn't giving out the directions.
They're so affordable and don't need wifi or a plan. Just bust it outa your glove compartment and later.
A Perfect 10..just bitchen!!

Why the 255w is a good value in GPSs.

I have used quite a few Garmin GPS units while touring in Europe, Asia and now Central and South America. The 255w, and the similar units 265w for instance, are sturdier than some of the newer units. I use them on a motorcycle and they get beat up pretty hard. The smaller 255w is still large enough to read easily. Some of the later Garmin units have a weak spot in the design; the USB port. They tend to break at the soldier connection on the circuit board. The 255w has a much stronger socket and stands up better.Read full review

You can still get lost

I decided that moving a GPS unit between two vehicles was a pain in the [ don't ask ] .
I already had experience with the Garmin 225W, liked it ,and was familiar with its operation. I decided to obtain another for the "new" car.
This 225W came with updated software and , though my RAV4 will not float -- thus no driving to Europe -- all features on the new unit functioned flawlessly, as does the older Garmin unit.
i particularly like the size of this unit -- tucked away in the left corner of my dashboard, it provides speed limit info., along with the actual speed that the car is going [ which frequently are different.
All the features that are to be found on other GPS units are present on this one.
Actual GPS plotted locations are to be trusted! Period!
To follow blindly, all ROUTE suggestions given by " the lady in the sky" is to get lost frequently.
One must drive with some awareness of where one intends to go , lest one takes the long way home.
Have a paper map with you at all times and be prepared to STOP and look at it once in a while.

Used Nuvi 255 works 👍

Bought as a "used" unit after I damaged my first unit a nuvi 255w.
Tried other brands with more "features" that didn't work.

Don't leave home without it!

I purchased this to go in my little Mustang Convertible. The dash in it is to compact/small to install one of those bulky permanent ones and being a convertible I wouldn't want to o9nstall anything that someone could be tempted to rip out and steal and so this little jobby is perfect.

I can store this in a out of the way place like the glove compartment or arm chair storage, and pull it out when I need it. You can also use this as z handheld GPS, and so if you are in the big city and have to park in a lot blocks from your destination, this will still get you there.

Updated maps are also downloadable and takes only a few minutes.

For a GPS under $40, you cannot go wrong with this.

Happy driving,

Garmin 255W

These may be a discontinued model, but I am very happy with them! So much so that I now have 3 ! The touch screen is more reliable than my past 2 Magellan's I've owned, and they seem to have more accuracy on the maps. The Magellan would say "turn left in .2 miles", whereas the Garmin would say "turn left on Oak street in .2 miles then make a right on Baker Street". That's not a critical difference, but I'd give the nod to the Garmin.....Read full review
