Great product beautifully presented and worked like a charm

Used this when replacing my Plusnet router with a NetGear Orbis setup. Although not new, the modem was beautifully presented and could have been brand new. It was also unlocked and had the latest firmware installed.

Connection was simplicity itself using the supplied cables - one to connect to the BT Master Socket and the other to the Orbis router. Switched on and it worked first time.

One great advantage of using a separate modem and router, is that you are not chained to the master socket. You can install the modem close to the BT Master Socket and the use up to 1000ft of Ethernet cable to position the router wherever you want.

As well as being a great little product,it came with a very useful sheet of instructions.

Finally done the job

The item was ok, bit grubby considering it was refurbished (not sure what was meant by that) but what done it for me was the power supply.... Wrong one, would not fit the modem.
But it arrived in good time !
Would I use again, not sure

One of the best vDSL modems

It's a good vDSL modem, one of the best ones you can get, despite the fact that they're a 10 year old design. Although it's it's technically capable of acting as a router, it's actually designed as a PPPoE modem, so you need a router as well to plug in to it.

As it comes, it's adequate, but to make it perform at its best, it needs the latest unlocked firmware flashed and a few settings tweaked. Once you have done that you can just leave it and forget about it.

The only issue with this particular product as supplied is the mains adapter supplied were both cheap junk (both of mine had coil whine). But I didn't buy it for the adapter, and any generic 12 volt, 1 amp one will do, so I used known good ones instead and they work fine with the HG612.

Good solid ADSL modem

I was having problems with my EE Brightbox with different devices dropping out and intermittent performance across my wired network. For thirty quid I have replaced it with this using it just as an ADSL modem (which you can't do with the Brightbox) using my Apple Airport Extreme as the router. Everything is now completely stable with the 36Mb internet connection available across the network and all other connections running at gigabit speeds.
Only issue is that I had to fiddle around to unlock it to get at its user interface but relatively easy using guides on the internet. Now been running perfectly for a months.

Plug and play, got better internet speed.

I bought this to go along with an ASUS RT-AC86U wireless router (which has no inbuilt DSL modem). This is a VDSL2 modem compatible with Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) services provided by OpenReach. I use with with Plusnet, I can't comment on compatibility with other providers.

Installation was plug and play. I connected it in place of the Plusnet Hub One. Once powered on it connects automatically and the DSL light goes solid green. Then I connected my router via supplied ethernet cable, and went through the router's auto config routine. I put my username and password into the relevant boxes and that was all that was required to get internet access.

I actually got a 15Mbit speed boost using this modem, going from 60Mbps to 75Mbps downstream. I can't comment on why this occurred but I'm very happy with the results.

Great replacement or spare for older OpenReach modems

My Internet had recently started having strange issues, nothing obvious but some things like voice chat in games seemed to have problems until I rebooted my modem and router.

Since my router is quite new, and I thought it would be useful to have a spare modem I thought I'd take a punt and get this. As it happens, I should have done it some time ago: when I moved house two years ago, I had had a relatively consistent 24 Mbps download, but simply adding this “new” modem has bumped me up to ~32 Mbps.

This unit is newer and smaller than my old one, and just worked out of the box. Good stuff.

Easy to install and increased broadband stability.

I bought this because my BT Home Hub 5 kept on rebooting (at least once a day), and there is nothing more annoying than a broadband router rebooting in the middle of watching a Netflix program. :-(>
Installing was easy, simply move the cable to the broadband phone socket from the Home Hub to the modem, plug in the WAN port of the home hub to the LAN1 port of the modem and power on.

Since using this modem my Internet access is now significantly more stable, the home hub is still rebooting more often that it should, every 3 to 4 days, and I will certainly need to replace it altogether at some point.
And as a bonus it looks like the speed of my broadband connection increased by 10Mbits (Although I haven't attempted to measure it accurately yet).Read full review

Meant I Could use my old router with fibre connection!

Simple to use plugged in and works with my Sky fibre broadband. Plugged into my Asus router via Ethernet. This modem can also be unlocked from the BT setting to give full access to the Huawei. You can then view line stats and more.Read full review

Spot on

Absolutely what I was after so I could plug my new Wi-fi hub into as I forgot to buy one that was a VDSL modem also. Can’t fault the product at all.

Great modem for FTTC/VDSL - buy another as a spare

If you’re on BT (and many other providers) fibre to the cabinet, these modems just work out of the box, just connect up a router of your choice, follow a few simple set-up steps and away you go!
They are also really easy to “unlock” with modified firmware available online and simple comprehensive instructions, enabling you to view line stats etc etc.
Best mounted upright on a wall for ventilation purposes.

Still unbeated in speed

Still unbeated on speed both on ECI and Huawei cabinets. This modem is 6mbps faster than any major ISP router. Despite I am on an ECI cabinet this is +1mbps faster than the ECI Focus B modem (and the ECI modem is at least +4mbps faster than any ISP router). From 35mbps this modem has brough my speed to 41. For those on Huawei cabinets could be even better than my case.Read full review
