Pretty good but needs mods for heavy bikes

After much research and not wanting to spend Β£1,000+ I bought the lift for a long job on my GL1100 Goldwing. I also have a SH300i scooter and a GL1800 Goldwing. The lift had no problem with the scooter except that the centre-stand stood on the removable back plate. Putting the GL1800 on it was a very precarious 2-man job because of the narrow width of the table. I couldn't use the side-stand because it was off the edge of the table and the front wheel clamp was useless, might as well bin it. We managed it in the end by placing a scissor-jack under the engine but it was very stressful. Again, the centre-stand stood on the removable back plate so no good for dropping the rear wheel out. The table had no trouble lifting the GL1800 but it was far too unstable so I left it down.

Learning from this I bought 1.8m and 2.4m scaffolding boards and cut 60cm off the 2.4m board. I also bought 70mm square fence posts which I cut into lengths the width of the scaffold boards and glued in pairs to make 140mm feet for the 3 scaffold boards. I placed the two 1.8m boards each side of the table as running boards, and to take a side-stand, and the 60cm board across the front end of the table butted up against a wall to extend the drive-on length of the table. I can now confidently ride the Goldwings on to the table, put the side-stands down, and the put the bikes onto the centre-stand which now clears the removable back plate. Finally, I cut four 63.5cm lengths of fence post to act as supporting legs when the table is raised. I read another reviewer who did something similar.

***For a heavy bike it's absolutely critical that the bike is positioned along the table centre-line of the table otherwise it will lean when you raise it and could cause the table or bike to topple over***

The front wheel clamp is absolutely useless and the table could do with some drill holes to anchor ratchet straps

Well made and good for the price, even with extra bits.

Switzer ramp - wheel clamp issue

I was concerned to discover, that when clamping the front wheel of my motorcycle in the front wheel clamp for the first time, the bike was not positioned centrally on the ramp but offset by approximately 40-50mm. Therefore when the bike is raised, it leans quite considerably to one side due to the weight imbalance. I initially contacted the manufacturer in China, Jiashan Zhihan Co Ltd. for a solution but was advised I had to deal with the seller in the UK, KMS Direct. After contacting them, I was advised they had not heard of this problem before, but that I might use some packing material on one side of the clamp, to re-centralise it. Not the sort of answer I was looking for.
To date, the way I've overcome it, is to position the bike diagonally on the ramp so that the weight is in the middle and balanced. Again, not ideal.
I believe, the real answer should be for the manufacturer to come up with providing some elongation slots in the wheel clamp to that any sized wheel can be clamped, ensuring that the bike is always positioned centrally.
Other than the wheel clamp issue, I am generally happy with all other aspects of its functionality.

Nice but scary.

The bike ramp was delivered efficiently and seemed an attractive product. But with a heavy Yamaha MT10 on it on a paddock stand it was alarmingly unstable for the first few inches of lift, and though less so when fully up it was still unsafe. The cause was inadequate strut geometry when part way up combined with a lot of weight through paddock stand wheels at the rear, a long way from supporting struts. In fairness, though the width suggested a paddock stand could be used, this was not claimed. With the MT10 on its side stand, the stand and wheels had to be placed very carefully. If the stand were too far to the left (with wheels central), the whole ramp distorted badly enough to almost lift the rear wheel off the deck. I have made side supports to give much needed security (see image). Also the wheel clamp is strictly suitable only for upright bikes on centre stands. If used with a side stand it would need new holes drilling for position in accord with above.
That's my experience, but maybe its better with lighter bikes.

best bike thing ever

Its perfect for anything i need to do on my hayabusa. Its got plenty of room and i can, if needed use the bikes side stand but what i really like is the space allows me to use my 1JAC stand to get both wheels of the ground. Its easy to pump up and has a safety bar at 2 levels. coming down is a little jerky but it has adjustable setting for lowering. it comes in a huge heavy box with next to no assembly. The fully down hight is low enough for me to easly push the bike on without too much effort the rear ramp comes off to lift and its got a front wheel holder and clamp thats not much use for me. Its so versatile side stand paddock stands or the 1jac lift allows any jobe to be done.No more sore knees, strained back or lying on oily patches on the ground. Dont risk buying one of the small cheeper ones this is the boy to have ... you wont be disapointed. Read full review

Great lift!

I’m not usually one for leaving reviews, but felt compelled to in this case. I went for the larger, XL lift (1000lb capacity). It lifts my Tracer 900 no problem and can accommodate a paddock stand with plenty of room to spare.

Lift feels very well made and durable. I’m sure this will see me right for years to come.

Very good

First impressions of the lift are its good, well built, a little bit of movement when the lift is at full height, but to get rid of that you would probably have to double the weight of the lift it self to make it more sturdy.
Easy to move about, perfect for the bikes I have as both are around 180kgs,i should imagine a heavier bike would not be as good on the lift.
Happy with it overall πŸ‘

Switzer 1000lb bike lift

My back & knees wont stop thanking me! This is a quality product that is worth every penny. I just wish I'd bought one years ago, very simple & straightforward to set up and my 1200 bandit sits on it perfectly..with no issues.
The only thing i will advise though is to vent the jack & check the oil level before use..all done & again no issues.
I JUST CANNOT FAULT THIS BIKE LIFT

XL lift not up to the job

I bought the XL lift because I have a Triumph Rocket. The lift looks the part but unfortunately not able to cope with a triumph rocket. The front castors on the lift bend up the way when the weight of the bike is on it, bad design flaw. The whole point of buying this was the benefit of moving the bike about on the lift but because the front castor anchor point bends up the way when the weight is on........ the bottom of the lift then grounds and cant be moved. I've tried putting washers in to increase the height but once the bike is on they just bend up further.Read full review
