It All Boils Down To Human values

I loved this film since I first saw it in the '80s. It is not a block buster but in my book it is. I have been looking for a copy for ages till I found it on ebay for a great price. I still love it as much if not more. it is about deciding between making loads of money and, in the process, destroying a beautiful Scottish village or opting to preserve the kind of life that has become very scarce in modern times. The characters are amazing. The village life is very entertaining. Now that I live in a village, I can identify many people who are the spitting image of the characters in the film. For example in the film, the lawyer is also the hotel owner and the bar tender. In my village the café owner is the taxi driver and the funeral director!

Never a dull moment, full of mirth, down to earth wisdom, will make you question your values, and the music by Dire Straits (Going home) is haunting...This film is not to be missed

Local Hero lost tresure

This is a nice gentle paced story with excellent actors both American and English/Scottish.
The dual vistas and settings are the kind that may change with time and so the film is a real "snap shot " in time.
The soundtrack by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits is considered a lost Dire Straits album adding to the sum of this films good parts.

Local hero was a very apt naming of this film .

It exposes the typical West Coast attitude of Scotland so well , I sent it to friends in America who loved every minute of this film ,having lived here for several years they could see all that was portrayed in the film as very accurate. Many thanks for a rapid responce with delivery .Read full review

Easy watching,very entertaining.

Bought as a gift to educate a fellow fan of furthest Scotland who had been bypassed by this classic.
No feedback from him yet as his DVD has packed in! But I was encouraged to re-view my own copy & thoroughly enjoyed it for the umpteenth time....witty, charming & excellent music.Read full review

Local hero

Great film - just my luck that it appeared on film 4 two days after purchase. This must be due to the upcoming musical by Mark Knopfler. Still a good DVD to keep. Recommended.

Thank you very much. My dad loves this film for he likes Scotland a lot you see. And this is were they filmed the film. It's a really good film to watch, and the villagers can be a laugh. And the scenery is beautiful. Thanks again Jo.Read full review

Life in the North of Scotland.

Slightly different in content from the old video tape but very entertaining and enjoyable to watch. There are many insights into Scottish life in the Highlands so we would recommend this film especially to those living North of the border.

Doesn't exactly engender faith in the content. Could have been a better title.

One of the iconic films
